Default TC Renagade

Last week I was at the pawnshop and saw a TC Renagade now I'm notta side hammer kinda guy but it felt good also was drilled and tapped with a wever base but no scope. They were asking 129 but a friend of mine works there and let me have it for 80 out the door. So my question is did I get a good deal? The gun is in about 90% condition with a great bore. Also what kinda bullet should I get for it and what charge of pyrodex should I try? It's a 54 cal and I know nothin about 54s. How should I sight it in also Thanks y'all.

That's a really good deal. Look on Green Mountain Barrels and see if they still have the .50 cal. carbine barrel on sale for it. Also, post a picture. I just bought one for $30.00 that was in terrible shape and bought the GM .50 cal. Carbine barrel for it and it looks great now. I would like to see yours. I can't help you with the loads since I haven't shot mine yet. I was going to go to the range today but I can't make it.

The T/C renagade is a fine rifle, nothing wrong with the 54cal either. Around here they sell for well above $80.00 even with the drilled and tapped barrels.
With a hot shot nipple they will shoot real black, proydex, and T 7 with some care to lay it nipple side down and tap the stock near the tang.
It will handle round ball, conicals and saboted bullets equally well with the right load of powder.

Thats about half what it is worth.
A 54 cal. is the best caliber for long rang with a PRB and is the most effective for deer boar and black bear. Most of the deer I have take with 54 were dropped in there tracks.
My load is 110gr RS Pyrodex and a .535 ball with a ticking patch and borebutter lube.

You stole that rifle... that is a great deal

The .54 will shoot patched roundball real well. A .530 ball and .015 - .018 patch with moosemilk is what I use. 85 grains of Pyrodex Rs and you should be in business.

They also shoot conical bullets pretty good. Maxiball shoot well with 70 grains of powder.
