Default Keeping Fouled Barrel in TC BC Triumph wi/ BH209 after Range - How long and what now?

Ok - so I learned the error of my ways (thanks to Sabotloader and others) from the last time at range and now have 3/4" to 1" groups at 100yds. Per advice I didnt clean my barrel entire time and ran a pipe cleaner (didnt have a drill bit) in breech plug just to keep flash hole as clean as possible. Fired about 13 shots. It took about 6 shots to finally get the barrel dirty enough to where the consistent pattern developed so last thing I want to do is clean it.

So my questions now are as follows:

How long can I keep the fouled barrel without cleaning? A dirty barrel is what solved my accuracy consistency. I have heard that the barrel will rust if you dont clean it.

Do I need to clean my breech plug or just leave it dirty as well?

Muzzleloader season only lasts through Jan 16th so gun wont be sitting up long but dont want to ruin my gun.

Glad to here that you have that thing shooting well for you. They really are a nice gun...

Personally, I would get a 1/8" drill bit and turn it in the breech plug flash channel - just to make sure... Leave the BP in place. Just stand the gun on the recoil pad and feed the bit into the BP as you are twisting.

The only thing that could cause you a problem in your bore is if it gets wet or damp. Then you could start building a problem. As long as it dry - no problem.

Knowing myself... I personally would run a couple of dry patches down the bore and get the bulky loose stuff out. And i would also run a very lightly oiled Montana X-treme Bore Conditioner patch flip and run it again. Montana BC main ingrediant is Ether Alcohol so it protectects and evapaporates in a hurry. With this combination you would be just plain protected except against the worst.

When you are ready to go hunting - go out in the garage or outdoors pop a couple of primers - dry patch - load up and go hunting.... If you are hunting in foul weather use a muzzle mitt on the end of your bore.

Good hunting...

Remember - I do not always follow the norm...

If the bore was preserved well before your range trip i would not touch it until after hunting season.

If it wasn't, clean very well now. After cleaning shoot two or three fouling shots and enjoy your hunting.

Seeing how long it took for the pattern to develop and not able to go back to range to test out any cleaning practices between the range and the hunt has me terrified to run anything through the barrel right now. Seems with the loose powder there are so many variables to contend with - axact same amount of pwder each time, pressure you pack bullet against it etc - I just hate to disturb anything

I am pretty certain the oil I had in barrel inbetween range trips was enough to keep barrel preserved for next three weeks - but I am not certain.

I am praying it doesnt rain on any my hunting days cause then I have to clean in the field and fear I am back to square one. I am now seeing advantages that pellets have over the powder but will stick with loose powder for now.

I am also pretty sure you are alright...

If it rains it is no big deal unless it gets in you bore... just keep it coverered..
