Default pyrodex powder question

RS or Select? Which is better, and why?

And what is the real difference between them?

WV Hunter

The difference as I understand it is that 'S' has been screened to be a more consistent in size, than RS (rifle shotgun) powder.

I am not a pyro fan so maybe others will chime in...

sabotloader is right, the "select" is more consistent. The RS has different granulations but you really need to look, I use RS in my shotgun and it goes off fine.

For sure the Select is more expensive. Never could tell any difference in the two powders when it came to accuracy.

RS is just as good. A very good reliable and consistent powder.

P is better. More consistant.

Why don't you like it?

I've used select for 18 years, very accurate in my percussion, and on sale each time I've purchased. cleans up pretty easy too.

" P is better"

P is for pistols, does it work well in your rifle? Not being a smart azz, still learning.

As sabot loader said the difference is in screening Select has a minimum and a maximum screen while RS has only a maximum screen.
I ran comparison tests when the only other powder Black I did not find much difference in the three guns I used [all traditional] with #11 caps.
With #11 caps the ignition was more dependable as I had a few rare hang fires with Select. This was with 50 shots with each powder with each gun to me if you don't find a difference in that amount of shooting then there is not one worth looking for.
It is possible that a difference might show up with inlines and 209 ignition but I am not interested enough to do any more testing since I only use it in my Traditionals now. Blackhorn 209 is better suited to inlines in my opinion.
