I have been interested in trying out Ohio for blackpowder hunting. We don't have a really long season in Maine where I'm from and it falls during my peak season as a lobsterfisherman. For 3 years i got in on later season hunts in Virginia and it was awsome, but my friend lost those places to hunt so i been trying to figure out somewher to hunt later on, and the Ohio Blackpwder looked promising. Does anyone know some of some land or have any advice for me if I end up hopping in my truck and rolling the dice?
Wayne National Forest and the A.E.P. wildlife area are good places. Wayne National is huge and you shouldn't have too much competition during muzzeloader season. Typically during muzzie season a lot of the bucks have started dropping their antlers in to January but if your just looking to kill some deer you should have some luck.
Not too far. I turkey hunt on the AEP ground and like it. I live where Licking, Perry and Muskingum counties come together. A coworker of mine killed his first deer two weekends ago on the AEP ground.
thanks loadbreak. I'll look into that. I know I'll probably never see a farm like the one we had in VA again, but I can always hope to come across a place like that again. There were so many deer there and it was amazing it had everything. How many deer can you shoot in Ohio anyhow?
