Default Some new sabots in my .54

So yesterday i was out shooting the 54 mountain stalker again. I was testing some 100gr APP 3F round ball loads, patches wernt taking it very well so i almost was ready to quit until i remembered i had a box of hornady .44/265gr sabots in the closet. These bullets came with the clear sabots.

Well i went and reloaded some powder tubes with 90gr 3f APP and took 3 shots. One shot touching a .54 round ball hole kind of made me wonder what happened so i went and got one more load. Perfect! Stacked 3 up pretty nicely at 50 yards.

As you can see i am shooting way off to the left. I adjusted the sight all the way to the right and nothing moved on the target at all. I went and replaced the fiber optics sights with a german silver front blade and the original buckhorn style rear sight. We'll see how that works.

Im surprised as heck how well this 1:48 twist does with sabots. They are a son of a gun to load but they shoot pretty darn good.

Those 3 big holes were with 100gr APP 3F, the much smaller holes are the sabots. What a difference in size LOL.

A .54 round ball makes a heck of a hole. I shot sabots with that rifle and it did real well. I forget the weight of them but they were heavy.. 300 grain range as I remember. They were from Traditions and a package deal. But they shot real good with around 80 grains as I remember. Nice shooting.

Well my traditional sights were 5" low at 20 yards i so didnt bother trying to file anything down LOL.

I put the fiber optics on and after some filing on the mount to get more right hand adjustment, i got it perfectly center at 50 yards. I also removed the huge red optics on the rear sight. They were much to big and caused the target to go blurry.

It turned out to be perfect after i removed them.

My rear sight with the optics gone now looks like uUu I use the center U and the front green optic just drops beautifully into the Big U. Clear as a bell now.

Im going to keep the 80gr 3f APP - .530 round ball load and give it a try at 75 yards either this evening or tomorrow.
