Default So I finally tried the Gold Dots

So I finally got a chance to hit the range and try the 300 Grain Deep Curl Gold Dots I ordered and the Harvester Crush Rib Sabots I ordered to use with the bullets. These are the bullets I ordered
https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog...roductId/17309

and these are the sabots
https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog...productId/5481

I was shooting these in a Remington Genesis. The first thing I noticed was hold cow, these things were hard to load. The Fusion bullets I'd been shooting slid down the barrel fairly easily. I did get it loaded, but it was a major pain. I fired the round off. Upon loading the next round, this one on a dirty bore I couldn't get it fully loaded. I had to put the end of the ram rod up against the wooden table and push on the stock of the gun instead of pushing the ram rod down the barrel. That's how hard it was to load. This one also fired off fine. I then swabbed the bore, and it got easier to load. I did load a few on a dirty bore by hand without having to do the trick with putting the ramrod against the table, but they were all still hard to load.

My next thought on these things is holy cow they shoot well. I mean holes touching in the bulls eye at 100 yards. The only problem I'm having is since it's so hard to reload, I know that I will never be able to quickly do it in the field. Should I try other sabots? Or another bullet? Or just live with it being hard to load?

If the link you provided for the sabots is accurate, you don't have the crush rib sabots. Those are the standard short blacks in the link (H5045SB)

Harvester's number for the crush ribs is H15045BR.

Forget about a quick second shot or loading down a dirty barrel...Take care of the first shot, clean the barrel and reload...

Then go fetch your deer...

If you use the crush rib sabot, you will find loading some easier. Crush Rib sabot part # HA15045BR is what you should try, if you would like to be able to load with less effort.

Sorry, that's the correct link, so I must not have the crush rib sabot. I thought the package said Crush Rib, but I guess not.

So should I switch to the crush rib sabot?

Is the exterior of the sabot smooth or does it have fine ridges running vertically all the way around? If the latter, you have the crush rib. When shooting with BH209, I have no problem loading 40 in a row without swabbing, but I am using a different bullet.

When it is all said and done - you might have to polish your bore with some JB's - not a hard project at all.

Check out Cayugad's post - he just shot the same bullet with a Harvester smooth black sabot which is a bit thicker from his Rem.

Is you rifle new?

And the other question which powder are you shooting?

And 7.62NATO's question is also important...

Might be the answer. The rifle is not new. It's probably had close to 75 rounds down the tube if not 100. I originally shot Powerbelts which loaded fairly easy, then I tried the Federal Fusions which also loaded easy. These are the only ones that have loaded hard like this. However, while I'm not sure about this for hunting, I'm loving them for target practice as they just shoot amazing. It's nice to have holes touching at 100 yards. If I switch sabots to ones that load easier can I expect to keep this accuracy? Or is it usually more accurate with a tighter sabot?
