I have a T/C Triumph, shooting 90g of BH209 pushing a Harvestor Scorpion 260 grain ballistic tip with crush rib sabot. Using CCI209m primers. My questions are.
The first shot is always a flier, gets better when I burn a primer before shooting.
After how many shots should I clean? I know it says no cleaning b/w shots, but still im shooting around 10 shots per range session. I mean I have a group good enough to kill a deer, but would like to get better. Any ideas?
Burn a primer, shoot a 3 shot group. Clean, adjust scope and repeat?
i would bump up the powder to 100-120 grains by volume and try that,my triumph turns on from 100g +.i like to sight in on a clean barrel and hunt with a clean barrel so i clean between shots even with blackhorn if i'm taking the gun on a hunt.....karl
I am just the opposite. I hunt with a fouled gun since my gun is much more consistent on a fouled barrel and I can only get one shot at POA with a clean barrel but many shots if needed at POA with a fouled barrel. I agree with bumping the powder charge up to 100-120 by volume. I shoot a 250 Barnes or TC easy glide with 115gr of BH 209 in my TC Pro Hunter and never swab between shots no matter how many shots I shoot at the range. My gun shoots better the more I shoot it and my last shot goes down as easy as the first.
I agree about bumping up to 100 grains. As for cleaning after bh209 I would at least run a damp patch of solvent and then a couple dry patches to dry the barrel. Personal I would go with what our gut tells you and what you think is right. Test ,test. then see how your rifle shoots,
I'm going the other way for your charge. I have an Omega and was pushing 250 & 240 gn bullets with over 100 gns of BH and could not get the tight groups. I went up to the 300 Grn Scporpion PT Gold with 100 grns of powder and found the sweet spot.
If you keep the 260's try 80 or 75 grns. If you can pick up some 300 grn Scorpions keep the charge the same.
I will try bumping the powder charge up to 100. Need to make sure I fire some primers off before sighting in. I think that will help the first shot flier. Thanks guys, keep them coming.

Night before i go hunting
I remove any oil from the bore with a 50/50 windex/rubbing alcohol patch. Most degreasers (brake cleaner) on a patch work also but be careful about getting them on your stock.
Pop 2-3 primers and run a dry patch once. It seems to even out the primer fouling but the bore is still dirty.
Double check that the flash hole is clear and load up at camp.
Ive also been using Montana Xtreme Bore Conditioner and it seems a bit more forgiving on POI variations vs some oils.Such as oils with PTFEs/Teflon really make it worse and should be removed.
Try to make a mental note of your first shot POI too with the load you want to use. If its only hitting a bit high, i dont make any adjustments.
BTW i would also bump up to 100gr-110gr.

I just read GM54-120's post on My Thread, he shows a pic of the inside of his Breech Area and how Clean it is using BH209. Now Im with you SJAdventures, I Hunt with a Fouled Barrel also and when I pull the trigger I know it's going to go wher Im aiming. Now My Question.....if (we) Hunt with fouled Barrels and your Using BH209, where is the Fouling to Foul the Barrel if BH209 is so Clean? I did'nt see any Fouling in the Pic GM54-120 Posted. Now I dont use BH209, Im using Pyro RS Powder so there definately is Fouling in My Barrel, but I dont see it with the BH209, or is there and Im not seeing it? And If our MLers Shoot Better on a Fouled Barrel is using BH209 going to rob me of this Fouling that makes My MLer shoot better if I changed to BH209? I have no intentions of changing Powder, but I was just curious.

There is a way plenty of fouling in my barrels, when i use BH209. However, this fouling doesn't impede loading like the fouling of 777. It doesn't seem to get worse and worse and worse with every shot. From time to time it does cause some rusting in the barrel, but not every time. I have fired near 75 shots without cleaning, and accuracy and ease of loading doesn't seem to change. Breech plugs do get more and more plugged up with each shot until the flash channel is about 1/16", and then it stays about the same. There is a way plenty of fouling in my barrels, when i use BH209.
That is only the breach area. The barrel had plenty of fouling. IMO BH209 shoots best with a fouled bore. Like Ron ive shot well over 30 shots many times and at least 50 shots several times.
BH209 didnt keep the breach clean. The Lehigh Knight conversions and Rons breach plugs for the CVAs with a tight fitting primer made the huge difference.
My primers look like this all the time if they fit correctly.

And Win 209s
No Blowby= clean breach and far better ignition even with weak T7 primers.
And it just keeps going and going and going and going with nice groups. Shots 3-30 or more load as easily as number 3 did.
