Default cheap bullet ideas for an 45cal

I am looking for some plinking rounds for an 45cal win apex. the problem is, all the 40 (10mm) bulks I think tops out at 200gr (I could be wrong). i shot powerbelts ranging from 223 to 275gr.

I was thinking of getting an .452 bullet mold and doing an full bore bullet that way. but my soft lead is in FL still (no room left in the trunk to bring it home) and all I have is WW lead.

any one have any idea or know of anything bullets around 240 to 270gr. been looking for 3days.

I have shot alot of conicals that were poured from straight WW. I never had a problem.

You might want a little heavier mold in that 45. But heck just buy a cheap mold and a ladle and go for it. Tom.

Add a Lee .454 resizing kit for $17 and you are set to finish off those .458s depending on your bore diameter. They offer .451 .452 .454 and .457s with Alox in the $16-17 range that fit standard 7/8 press threads.

Using WW you may prefer a closer to bore diameter finished bullet. My Maxis are not pure lead, probably WW and shoot very well.

Just for a reference my Accura 45 is a tad larger than my Elite 45. My Accura is about .4525 and the Elite is right at .451 if you want to shoot sabotless.

Im not sure about earlier CVA 45 barrel specs so......

I like the 45/70 300gr semi rounded nose flat point design for making conicals and just liquid Alox on them for resizing. Im getting some pure lead 405gr RNFP to try next since mine loved a PR Ultimate 360gr spitzer type tipped conical.

I size them then knurle. Knuling a .458 will likely remove most of the lube grooves. After Knurling i use a larger die to make the knurling uniform.

BTW im looking for a .450 badly. Lee used to offer them but not anymore. I need one that fits the 7/8th threads, not the Lyman swage/lube versions.

Swinglock stopped selling them too and now offers an adjustable die for $150+.

My luck with clip on wheel weights has been poor at best with a ML. The stick on WW's are ok. The bullet my 1-28 twist 45 likes is the Lee improved minie sized .445 and paper patched. Then sized again to .451 I use an over powder wad with this bullet. Your going to size a .458 to .451 that is made out of WW's and your using a hand press? Remind me not to arm-wrestle you. Ron
