our general rifle seasons started on 10-10, both for elk and deer... That is the season I get to use my scoped -209 ML's...
We are hunting elk at this time - seen lots of deer but only one elk - just a personal thing I do not shoot deer during elk season - so I pass on them right now till November. We have a ML season late in November that will be a good time to bust a deer.
How's the hunting going so far? let me just say - slow... It has been like summer - hunting in shirt sleeves on pop-corn brush and twigs...

Sounds like you and family are doing great so far.
Our blackpowder season starts on Oct. 30th for two weeks. Can't wait to bring my Hawkens with me.. I love the smell of blackpowder in the moring, and crack of thunder it makes.
Good deal, Chet. If I could only get my WIFE hunting with me. That would be awesome! I'm currently trying to ingrain it into my 4-year-old girl and 1-year-old boy. The girl has always said she wanted to go hunting (since I started). Out of nowhere, she recently told me that I was silly, because, "Girls don't hunt, only daddy's hunt." I set that straight immediately. She gets to go shooting with me on her 5th birthday...given that she's become coordinated enough.
Anyway, I'll let you know how the season is once it starts. ML season begins on 10/30 and can't get here soon enough! Scouting has shown me some promising deer sign.

ML season opens today in most of Manitoba. If all goes well, I hope to get out this evening for a couple hours. It's about an hour out of the city to where I hunt. My son has secured landowner permission for us to hunt. It's payback time for the moose hunts I've taken him on. No moose hunt this year, it's gotten terribly expensive to fly-in. What I used to pay $500 for now costs over$2000. And that's just for the flight. I've always been self-guided, taking my tent, canoe, and all gear & getting dropped off in the middle of the bush. I get picked up a week later, weather permitting.
Anyway, son says there is one very nice buck in the area and several smaller ones. I'm licensed for one any sex & one antlerless. He's been bow hunting the area since August and hasn't seen any 'dry' does yet, so I guess I'll have to see what comes.
less than 20 days before 3rd season opens up. We went scouting and found a new place that looks pretty awesome. Lots of deer but one of the guys said to go up high to find the elk. Going to be hunting right on top of the Sangre De Cristos this november it seems.
Aw Chet, now you're just taunting me. Twenty-seven days and counting. Hopefully you'll be seeing a "Deer Meets .58 Ball" report in the middle of November.
