Default fitting an trigger guard

I am almost done with my an 54cal hawkens I been working on for an year or more (time mainly). I need to fit my trigger guard. problem is, it is too small where the trigger group is, I can't get my finger in to pull the front trigger (can't shot the gun like that).

I was thinking about putting it in an vice, heating it with an touch and stretching it that was. is that an good or bad idea or should I just keep looking for the right one.

other idea, taking the one off my 50cal hawken. and making an mold to cast one myself?

Sounds like you have double set triggers and a guard for a single trigger...Or it's positioned wrong, can't tell without pics...Is the guard suppose to be pre inlet or is this a scratch build???

I'm afraid if you try to stretch it out, you're gonna lose the height needed to give the trigger clearance...

Easiest thing to do is get online and order a new one that has more room...There are plenty of places, try a search or go to Dixie Gun Works...

If it's brass you're not going to be able to stretch it. But it will break just fine.
