Default a couple questions

J ust a couple of questions. I'm sorta new to ml,but not real new. I've been lurking here for quite some time and you fellas seen real knowledgable. Well, I got my first ml rifle 2 yrs ago, an Omega Z5 and a tc 3x9 scope, sighted it in for 100 yrds using 100gr t7 pellets and 250gr shockwaves. Accuracy wise that load did ok, but I wasn't real impressed even though my 13 yr old daughter got her first deer last day of late season.... a monster doe with a 200 yrd heart shot. She may just be a better shot than me,so this year I decided to get her her own ml, same as mine. I have decided to switch to loose powder and was wondering how pyrodex compares to goex velocity wise and recoil wise. I have some of both and right now my daughter's load is 75gr goex behind 300gr sst. It will pattern 4" at 125yrds. Is this enough or should I keep working it up? Keep in mind 200yrd shots are not uncommon. Thanks in advance for any input.

4" at a 100 is not all that good, and at 200 it might be at a foot or more, not too good for 200yd shots. Pyro and Goex are both fine, but 75gr's for 200 yd shots does'nt seem like enough foot pounds to do the job. I would try upping the Powder untill you get that sweet spot load and untill the groups come togeather a little more. You should get the groups at least 1"-1"1/2 at 100.
I get 1"1/2+- Groups at 200 and for me to take a 200yd shot at a Deer I better be 100% sure that I can make it and that the Animal is'nt gonna move.
Im not saying your Daughter is'nt a Good Shot, but 200yds for a 13yr Old is a good distance, it's a good distance for a Seasond ML Hunter. Are you sure that the 200yd Heart Shot just was'nt pure Luck?

Pyrodex and Goex are about equal in strength. Pyrodex just a hair more. And they are 15% weaker then Triple Seven. So if you shoot 100 grains of Pyrodex RS you would shoot 85 grains of Triple Seven.

No telling what a rifle will like until you shoot one. But good luck to you and your daughter. If it is a T/C Shockwaves normally shoot real well. And are good for long range with say 100 grains of powder.
