Default T/C Triumph Loading Problem

Hey Triumph Owners - Do you have problems loading? I bought my wife this muzzle loader right before they come out with the Bone Collector version. This is the first year that we have shot it. It doesn't matter if it is a clean barrel, it is extremely difficult to load. We are using the Shockwave 250 grain bullet. I have had an Encore for 7 or 8 years and you can shoot it 5 or 6 times and it isn't near as difficult to load as this Triumph. In the field I don't think she can get it loaded by herself. We are headed to New Mexico in a week and a half, so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Triumph's have a very tight bore and can be a bear to load. You probably should try some Harvester Crush Rib sabots first - see if that helps any.

Another approach would be to polish the bore. Mine was so tight I was not even able to load the Crush Rib that well, so I ended running JB's bore paste through the barrel. I ended up using a 150 full bore tight strokes. I would change the patch every 25 stokes.

It worked wonders for me - I am now able to load HPH-24's and even the Orange MMP 458 sabot...

Well, i will take a guess. Use crush rib sabot in place of the sabot you are now using. Then your bullets should be easier to push down the barrel. My assumption is you are using black sabot now. If you are using yellow sabot, they are already about as 'loose' as a sabot can be, and the crush rib will not cure your issues.

Well it's a little late to start playing around with components at this point mpool. But you might consider this for later. I believe the Shockwaves are .452. If they are still too tight with crush rib sabots, Speer makes a 260 grain and a 300 grain .451 bullet for the .45 Colt. One of those paired with crush ribs may be just the ticket. They are not listed as hunting bullets, but should do for whitetails.

You might want to try the Hornady FPB's. After about 50 rounds, it really smoothed out the bore in my triumph. Loads slick now! They might be a quick fix for you to hunt with, if you can't find the proper sabot, in the short term. I pre-sized mine, as suggest here, by pushing them tip first through the bore, from the muzzle end.

Can always try the Shockwave Super Glide loads. They are made for tighter bore guns.

They sure are .451...well at least the 300gr Unicore soft point is smaller for sure. The pointy Harvester Scorpions are also. Those are the only ones i can load sabotless in my Elite 45 (perfect fit too). All the .452 will not fit without a hammer. Some bullets made for 45 ACP are also .451. Parker Ballistic Extremes are even smaller at .450 but IMO a bit pricey, the Scorpions PTs are a much better value IMO.

Personally ive had the best luck in tight bore with the MMP 3 petal EZ or the Hornady low drags. Its probably the 3P MMP sabot but colored red. Combined with a .451 bullet they should load in any tight bore but will likely be loose.

Knight EZ load bullet and sabot combos also go down any bore ive tried and shoot pretty good even in a normal bore for me.

About the cheapest way to find out might be to use the Harvester black Crushribs and a Scorpion PT or the smaller Speer 300gr SP.

Im with Sabotloader on a good bore polish or you can try a less abrasive bore cleaner like ME Copper Cream or JBs milder option. Using any of the polishes made a big difference in loading pressure in my tight bores just dont over do it or use it too often. I only polish a new bore once with JB or ME polish.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. I am also impressed with your knowledge. Just to let you know, I did start out using the Black Sabots but switched to the Yellow Super Glide bonded bullet that has the Blue tip. I am using the XTP bullet with the black sabot in my Encore. I hate to sound like a dummy but what is a crushed rib sabot? Also just to let you know, once I get it loaded with the Yellow Super Glide it is dead on. It shoots awesome. It was all over the target with the XTP bullets. Thanks again guys - Hopefully we can post some pictures. Mike

Crush Rib Sabots
They work well in a couple of my rifles with tight bores.

If the 'yellow' sabots are not going down switching to a 'Crush rib' will not provide you an answer either...

How much time do you have before ML season???

Sending you a PM...
