Default What is the maximum point blank range?

Ok, for those of you with trajectory programs, can you estimate the MPB for 100 gr powder (2x50 gr Pyrodex pellets) and Hornady 250 gr SST sabot bullets? If I am dead on at 100 yards, where will I be at 150 and 200 yards? Where should I be at 100 yards for MPB?

Thanks.

For MPR, don't sight in dead on at 100...Bring it up to about 3 inches and you'll be dead on around 125-135 and 2-3 inches low at 150...

PS...I don't trust ballistic tables, they might be close but I've also seen them be off by 5-6 inches at 250 yards with center fire rifles...Nothing beats putting it on paper at ranges you'll expect to encounter...

Wowser, that is some drop. I failed to mention I am using two different guns with the same load, a TC Encore Pro Hunter and a Knight Revolution if your program has those available to choose from.

Thanks, Sabotloader

Assuming you have a scope on your rifles, and sabotloader has the correct muzzle velocity for your load, the maximum point blank range is 190 yard. Here is a ballistic chart generated by Lee Shooter for your bullet.

If your rifle is sighted in about 3" high at 90 yard, this chart say you will kill a deer out to 190 yard, by holding center of chest. Where i usually shoot my rifles at paper, is about 4700 feet, and at that elevation my rifles shoot some flatter than calculation say they should. One can also see that 'knowing' the exact range is critical for a muzzle loader out at 200 yard or so, and beyond.

That is why it is better to use a real PBR.... You tell the computer that that you never want the bullet be higher than 3" nor lower than 3" along the PBR range. With those numbers the computer with the bullet BC and velocity with or without wind or elevation can project a possible trajectory.

On the one that I posted if you shoot 0" at 100 you can see what the bullet does... but on the right hand side you can see the suggested 'Zero' range is a 150 yards, making the bullet somewhere near 2.83 inches high at 100.

Here is a PBR computed sheet - sorry it is tipped must have put it on the scanner crooked...

Keep it simple.....crank it 3-4" high @ 100yds and evaluate 200yd results.
