Default Hawken & Mtn Stalker

Took the CVA Mountain Stalker and the Hawken out today to work up some loads with powerbelts. I chose the 300gr Powerbelt Platinum with 80gr and 90gr American Pioneer 3f charges. All shooting was at 50 yards in a nice hot day with little breeze.

Hawken 3 shots @ 50 with 80gr APP 3f - 300gr PBP - No cool down time.

I then upped the charge to 90gr and took 3 more shots. That was a no go!

Next is the CVA Mountain Stalker with 80gr American Pioneer 3f and 300gr PBP @ 50 yards. Upper left 3 shots was on a cool barrel, the lower right 3 shots closer to the bullseye were on a hot barrel. This rifle will shoot hot or cold!

We always take a couple back up rifles hunting for that " just in case" moment if something were to go wrong with the normal rifles we carry.

Good Shooting. I never try things like powerbelts in my Traditional rifles. Too expensive I guess. But that goes to show that if you can get a good load worked up, even out of a traditional rifle, those things will shoot.

I have shot powerbelts out of the .54 caliber Renegade and Lyman Trade rifle. The 405 grain did real well out of the Lyman. So well in fact that when I deer hunted with it the one year, I carried the powerbelts as a fast back up shot.
