Having now witnessed the performance of 6 different bullet striking the same juice jug set up, one can compare their weight retention. All bullets were pushed by the same charge of 105g of BH209. Below is the basic set up used to absorb the 6 different bullet. Shooting bullets into these jug is quite fun, and the fun is kinda shown by this video.
99.3% was retained by the Speer 270g 44 caliber Gold Dot.
99% was retained by the Barnes 45 caliber TEZ.
Pictures of these two bullet follow.
92% of it's weight was retained by the Nosler 45 caliber 300g hand gun bullet. Following are pictures of this bullet.
87.5% was retained by the 300g 45 caliber Speer Gold Dot. It ended up being the 'prettiest' bullet when all was done.
83.4% was retained by the Hornady 44 caliber 300g XTP, although it did separate into 2 pieces; a chunk of lead, and the jacket.
72% was retained by the brass Lehigh 0.458 Diameter, 300 grain, DOA HP MZ.
And with a price comparison thrown in, the Speer blows the others away.

Great price. Midsouth shows them for a buck cheaper, but they've been out of stock for quite a while.

Some 300 grain Gold Dots recovered from the damp sandy loam behind my 100 yard target. Shot at around 1650 fps.

They will be on my to do list. This year I have been mainly shooting heavy conicals and they are pretty darned impressive to me. I think I will hunt either with them or a patched ball. There are too many options and too little time.
