Default Traditions hawkins kit

Well I am a little mad right now. I have been working on my traditions kit for a long time now and have it all ready to get put together for the final time and when putting in the wedge to hold the barrel in the forarm area cracked and blew apart. Now I have put this all together befor I did the finishing of stock and got everything with no problems till now. Did anyone have this problem? Does anyone know if I will be able to get a new stock from Traditions? Thanks Matt

Usually the barrel channel is fitted for the most part on them rifles. I would call Traditions and see what they say. I will tell you the one time my traditional Traditions rifle cracked a stock (it was not a kit).. they told me to glue it. BUT it never hurts to ask. Since it is a kit they may very well have extra stocks around.

I had fitted everything a couple of times with putting the wedge in to secure to barrel. I am going to call traditions tomarrow and see what they say. I would be ok with buying a new stock esp. since I don't know what to do with the gun now.

All may not be lost. You can do some amazing things with the glues available these days. Why don't you post a picture of the damage.

What kind of effort did it require to install the wedge pin, prior to the stock cracking? I would think it had to be a very tight fit in order for the stock to "blow apart". Could the stock have warped while it was being finished? Is there anything visible in the broken wood that would indicate a bad piece of wood, such as a loose knot or other defect? Glues may work, but I'd rather start over with new wood if Traditions will help you out.
