Default Traditions Crockett Rifle Range results

After some playing around with loads I consistently put all shots in one hole at 25 yards (rested aim and off hand). Easily could cover group with a quarter. Of course the sun got in my eyes a few times and had a flyer or 3 shooting off hand, but still could cover entire group with a silver dollar. 50 yard group you could cover with a baseball. Overall I like the rifle (only have $200 in it) not T/C quality which Im used to but very nice for what it is. I have two things I dont like about it. First is the breech is attatched to the tang so you have to remove the tang screw to remove the barrel and out of the 4 nipple wrenches I have none will fit in there to get the nipple out to clean so I have to find a nipple wrench to get the nipple out. Overall very accurate, fun (and cheap!!) to shoot. Squirrels beware!!!!

Good deal Shooter. It's more fun when they do that.

Sounds like a great shooter there. Nice find. Way to shoot.

Shooter, I've got a Crockett also. I too had the nipple wrench problem. I ended up buying one from Traditions that fits down in there just fine. Here's a link: Nipple wrench

I've been trying to sell mine due to the fact that I my eyes are just bad enough to make it hard to make head shots with the iron sights. It's a squirrel slayer though! I made myself a little buckskin possible's bag and an antler patch knife. BTW... the tubes that the Pyrodex and 777 pellets come in make excellent quick loaders. I just cut them to the length I need for the 25 grains of powder I shoot through it. I take 5 with premeasured powder loads, one with balls, and one with caps. It doesn't take up much space at all.

I want to see some pictures posted when squirrel season gets here! Here are some of mine:

Shoot me a pm if you want to sell that crockett rifle. Looking to get one for my daughter. She is only 9 weeks old (born 2lbs 1oz, now 5lbs 2oz) and is still in the hospital, but I still haven't got her the first gun yet. Been looking for something unique and I think a crockett rifle would be perfect.

I would start with 25 and work my way up till you come to the grouping you want. I shoot 28 grs. with my PRB and get just the results I want.

I have never hunted with it, but am getting to the point where I want to give it a try.

Good Hunting!!!

I was shooting a Hornady .310"ball .015"patch and 20grains of FFg. 25 grains did not change the accuracy, but 30 grains did open it up a little. probably will hunt with the 25 grains of ffg and practice with 20 grains of ffg because the group was not effected.

I'm shooting 35 gr of FFFg. It looks like I'm gonna drop this down a bit to see if groups can improve to sub 'squirrel head size'.
