Default Off topic, A walk in the woods

It's been the nicest March and early April that I can remember here in Minnesota. Today I played a little hooky and went for a walk in the woods. I saw the Dutchman's Britches

Some Mayflowers

The fiddlehead ferns are just starting to pop out of the ground

I've eaten them but they are a little bitter
We've been munching on the wild leeks for about a week now

We like to chop the bulb and part of the greens up and have them in our salad.

I was out and about last Saturday and walked up on a bear. It was last years cub I am guessing. We were about 50 yards apart and we both stood there looking at each other. It sure is different not having a dog to warn me anymore. After about a 20 second stare down (that seemed a lot longer) we both turned around and headed in other directions. I was out looking at the spring plants as well.

I haven't been in MN real long, so it's not saying much to say it's the nicest spring I can remember, but not having any snow since mid Feb. has been nice. Where at in MN are you?

I am a little over an hour southwest of the Twin Cities so a little over two hours south of you. I think I remember that you are in the Kimball area.
In about a week the morels should start popping around here.

Cool pics! But I thought you were talking about the book "A Walk in the Woods" when I first read the thread title. Great book!

I'm in in Becker, a little over an hour north of the cities. I haven't tried morels, but I've heard they're pretty good and I'm sure there'd be some out in the woods. I may have to go take a look soon.

Hey guys I don't post on here very often, but I thought I would chime in on this thread. I live in Redwood Falls Mn. It is nice to have a nice spring. The winter was pretty tough around here. The deer and phesants got hit harder than they have the past few winters. Also a lot of lakes froze out this year. Anyway, I look forward to enjoying as much of this spring as I can. My turkey hunting starts May 4th, so I will enjoy some scouting trips before then. Happy Spring!!!

Did someone say Morrels?

After reading this thread and going by the gunshop i took a short walk on the Katy trail in St. Charles. We have more coming up now too.

This is just a small 5oz sample or what we got last nite (roughly 4lbs of nicer ones) and this morning. Hopefully the smaller ones we left wont be discovered until we return tonite and tomorrow.

Its still hunting IMO and one of the most elusive and best eating of them all.

Yea we also had a few real nice days here in Northern Chautauqua Co. N.Y. broke a few records, 85 and 87 degrees, better Weather than we had all last Summer, (Remember all the RAIN) But Now were back to reality, it SNOWED last night and on Friday also.
The Turkeys have been going at it and from the looks of things they got a-lot of breeding done in the last few weeks, it's gonna be a tough Turkey Season with most of the breeding done as our Season does'nt start untill May 1st.
