Default Which cleaning solution to use between shots?

I picked up some TC #13 cleaner and used it between shots and to clean my rifle. But I see some people mention using alcohol and Windex as well. Can either of these be used to clean the rifle or just as swabs between shots? Anything cheaper than the TC stuff would be great.

I've been using a patch saturated with denatured alcohol (not rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol has a lot more water in it.) as a between the shots swab. Been using it for years. Works fine.
Black powder.

I use patches wet with windex between shots , and its worked okay, I was going to try some patches wet with simple green I heard that works very well.

Well, you did not say what powder you are using I use different solutions with different powders.
Pyrodex =Alcohol and windshield washer 50/50
777 =Windex with vinegar
Blackhorn 209 = Hoppes #9 / alcohol or Montana X cowboy bore cleaner
What ever you use be sure to oil with a good gun oil after you dry the bore as far as I am concerned the synthetic is by far the best for several reasons.
I am not up on APP powders I use them for a couple of years and throw what I had out and quit buying them, I live in a high moisture area and they were erratic to the point where it was not worth the effort.

Also depends on what powder you are using. With BH209, most do not swab at all between shots, and some other powders apparently need very little cleaning, such as Black magic and Shockey's Gold.

I use TC #17 . They come in the presaturated patches, but I just buy the spray bottle and wet the patches myself. One bottle will last me close to a year and thats shooting it almost every week. But I do use BH209.

I used 70% rubbing alcohol on a couple of damp patches with Goex and Pryodex...

I have been using lightly moistened windex patches since I began this journey. I prefer the regular bule windex with ammonia to the windex with vinegar. The ammonia acts as a dryer, cleaner and metal stripper - it truly neutralizes the effects of powder residue. I started using it as it was somewhat recommended by barrel maker Dan Lilja.

Here is a picture direction of how I make mine..

I use Windex (actually the cheap dollar store brand) or windshield washer fluid and isopropyl alcohol mixed 50/50 in my inline rifles. You can also clean the fouling out of them at the end of the day with this stuff.

When I break a rifle down on the range and clean it for the next series of shots, I use Simple Green Cleaner. I think it is a 30% simple green and 70% water concentration. That stuff just plain cleans. (it will even take the soot off your wood stove glass doors).

In a Traditional rifle I use 70% isopropyl alcohol straight up as they say, to swab the bores. This stuff will not only pull the fouling, but it dries fast, and will actually burn if it has to. Say you have vapors in the barrel or maybe not 100% dry. I find I get less hang fires and misfires this way.
