Default I am going to keep it!!!!

The new Knight DISC Elite 45 cal that i got the other day.

Avenger and I were able to get to the Dinger Farm today to do some shooting. His 'new to him' TC 54 cal Renegade came in this week and the new DISC really needed to be shot. The Renegade that he got was really a nice gun. The former owner had dome a very good job maintaining it.

The wind was terrible and it would try to hail and snow every now and then but we were detirmined to shoot - so I backed the rear of the truck in under the roof of one of the out building on the farm and we shot out of the other bay. The worst part the wind was blowing left to right across the target. At one point I even had to go back out and staple the paper target back on to the board. The wind just tore it off. We looked for the shot patches but were able to only find one patch - the wind was just carring them off someplace.

This target shows the first 6 shots from each gun, it is only a 25 yard target but I think both guns show a lot of promise. The 45 really seems to have potential. I really hope to do some more shooting with it in the next day or two. I want to get it extended out to 100 yards - sure hope the weather cooperates...

This is today's target...

Definitely more shooting to come!

Looks like you guys have a pair of winners. Don't you just hate those "oops"? I kill every one I see, but there always seem to be more hanging around the range.

Is Avenger "kinda thinking" about an in-line yet?

That .45 would make a darn nice Easter gift for Bri.

I cant wait to try mine out tomorrow. Those groups sure make it look promising.

Im just going to take the Acurra and Elite and see how they compare. Its going to be nice to try some hotter loads too and the Lehigh 200s. Ive kept them reasonable with the Acurra, mainly because of the way the primers looked and i was exceeding CVAs recommendations.

I got some T7 and Win T7 primers for the 10mm light weights too. That should be fun

What is the benefit of a 45 over a 50 cal?

Mostly preference but there are a few IMO.

1) Less recoil
2) Less powder needed for the same fps and weight bullet (45s build a bit more pressure)
3) Cost of 40cal bullets is a bit less than 45s usually.
4) It can shoot a bit flatter depending on bullet choice.
5) Conicals are usually a bit faster in modern 45s and have good sectional density.

My favorite is that 2300fps with accuracy isnt that hard to achieve. Barnes 155gr TAC-XPs rocket out in the 2300fps+ range and are deadly accurate in mine. Its a great youth load or load for the recoil sensitive shooter out to 120 yards.

For me it is the simple fact that is cheaper to shoot... and shoot a lot. I still believe that a quality 50 is a better all around gun. I would not have a 45 if I did not have a 50 (or in my case several of them)

Also the points that GM54-120 brings up all play in there.

The 45 is capable of doing any deer hunting that i do with a ML here in Idaho, but you can bet if I were going after a big Mulie, Black bear, or Elk I am taking the 50...
