Barnes bullets

I have shot the expander mz for several years out of my Remington 700, this year i shot them out of my optmia. I have always like them, however they are difficult to load. I was wanting to try the spit fire t-ez's or the spit fire ez's. Was want to get the take on them from people that have used them, like accuracy and how they perform on game?

I like them a lot also. Your best bet would be to buy several different types/sizes of sabots made for that size bullet and see which one works best fo you. That's what I did and it paid off. I now use the 250g Barnes T-EZ with an MMP HPH-12 sabot.

I shot the TE-Z [FLAT BASE] with supplied blue sabot out of my dads optima and they shot super. Touch over an inch at 75 yards. Did not try them on game though. I used 90g volume of BH209 with Winchester W209 primers.

I have used the 325 gr. Barnes Expander in my .54 cal. Hawkens Carbine. My carbine has a 1 in 24" twist and these saboted bullets act like they were made especially for this gun.



The first time I used it I dropped a large doe in her tracks. The wound cavity was unbelieveable. The bullet acts like a buzz saw and is very effective. I would recommend it to anyone.

Those sure are sweet.

Its the next on my list in a few months. I would love a 1-24 54cal carbine. Add a MagSpark and i would be good to go

I ended up changing the #11 nipple to a musket cap nipple. It is much more easier to manipulate in the woods for a reload.

I strongly prefer BH209 and a Magspark might work

I went just the opposite and use #11 mag caps, but i use a capper to handle the loading so I never even touch the cap... The #11's are a bit more water resistant for me also... as they fit tighter and do not fall off the nipple. I use to squeeze the musket caps to keep them tighter but that even allows more moisture wicking ability.

I know it is not the traditional way but I really preder to use T7-3f in my side locks... They shoot it very clean and with a #11 cap. It is much faster and easier to re-cap a #11 than unscrewing the mag-spark insterting a 209 and then re-screwing the mag-spark back together again.

Im sure i will try that first if/when i get one. I really like that Cabelas carbine and the 1-24 is some sweet icing.

BUT i would need a peep site at the very least
