Default The Brown Truck Came

I got home from work yesterday and there was a nice big box sitting inside my front door. Inside was my 10ML II. It's really nice. I think we're going to have a lot of fun together. For now I'm just going to start with the recommended loads in the book, but I have to go buy some smokeless first. For those that have experience with this gun, would you recommend the AA or the IMR? Hopefully I'll get out to shoot early next week.

Congrats on it's arrival, IMHO, Either powder will work equally well. Both Powders were developed to be used with reduced loads as well as full power loads in many cartridge applications. Both powders were developed to achieve complete combustion with as little as 5K pressure. I have used 4759 for more than 20 years shooting Cast Boolitz. I have also use 5744 since it's inception under all of it's different headings.

An interesting find to me anyway, in the most recent Hornady Reloading Manual, all the loads listed for the 45/70 in the above mentioned powders, will give you the very same FPS in a ML10II with that weight bullet. I use Harvester SB sabots.

You will also be pleasantly surprised that you don't have to use loads as powerful as book listed loads for most of your shooting enjoyment. IMHO, there has never been a more Versatile Muzzle Loader than the Savage ML10 series.

The Brown Trucks make me smile...

Congratulations on your new rifle. What kind of scope are you going to put on that rifle?

I have a Bushnell Banner laying around, but I'm probably just going to start with open sights since MN won't let me have a scope for ML season. Figure I might as well get used to shooting it the way I have to. Though I'm sure I'll end up wanting to play around with it at longer ranges and end up putting a scope on it. I do have a TruGlo globe sight system on my KRB that I'll probably switch. I really like that setup for open sights. I'll also end up getting some of the Lehigh vent liners for it, but I'm going to have to wait awhile. Somebody else doesn't seem to think that I need to spend even more money right now. I need to work on my bullet/sabot collection for it right now first. I thought I had more .45 XTP's but instead most of mine are .44. Not sure how well those will work. But I'll soon find out, probably Monday or Tuesday.

SuperKirby, With the .430 XTPs drop down to 28 to 33 gr. of propellant and they should be a lot of fun. Do you have the green sabots? Tight is right. knurl the xtps with a file if they load with less than 30 lbs of load presure. For plinking take a good hard look at the T/C Cheap shots if you don't have the essentials to cast your own.

PM me for some Boolitz to try :-)
