I wonder why t/c installed a QLA on a round ball barrel ?
I know a few guys who have the QLA system and from what I was told a lot better to cut the patch material in strips and start the ball and cut the patch at the muzzel other wise it hard to get the ball to sit center of the patch.
The barrel should be a 1 in 66 and if it has a rubber butt plate I would say somewere around the 90's or later production m/l
The older one came with a steal butt plate

That I think is a newer rifle, in fact I am sure because it has the QLA. I will bet that has a 1-48 twist on it. I looked up the rifle in my T/C barrel charts and it does list a 1-48 twist on a PA Hunter in .50 caliber. Towards the end, almost every traditional rifle had that QLA put on them. It was a big marketing tool.

All this talk of PA Hunters I decided to shoot it today. My load was simple, 90 grains of Graf's 2f black powder and a moose milk. pillow tick patch with a cast .490 roundball. This was at 30 yards. The real shocker of the day was when I tried an off hand, and I mean just pulled up and shot. A little off but it needs more work.

The two different groups were because I shot the first, to the left, and then was sitting at a strange angle on the bench because of the melting snow. So I shoveled my feet flat to the ground and shot the next group.

I did not swab the barrel. I did notice some fouling building up but did not care. I had a couple more rifles to shoot. It was 43 degrees out and not even windy. Nice to sit out there without a jacket on.

I pick up a few years back a Pa. hunter 50 cal. dark bore percussion for a good deal,I only wanted the stock whick I flip my hawkens flinter into it.I did test the dark pitted bore with both .490 and .495
Blue@White pillow material out of walmart .017
I found the deeper R/B barrel with the 1 in 66 twist loved the .495 ball, the barrel shot excellent even though the barrel was not cleaned the correct way after a range trip funny thing the gun was owned by a old timer that fired it back in the early 80's a couple of dozen shots and was never cleanedbut it did shoot great
