Default 700ML Converstion Test Part 2

I got out to the range on Saturday to test Sabotloader’s conversion with some loads. Unfortunately, I had somewhere to be so I only had a little bit of time. However, it was quite cold so I didn’t complain for the abbreviated session.
Not a lot to show. I ran three different loads through the gun. The first was a 300g Gold Dot with 80g of BH and a STS primer. Accuracy was not what I expected however, by the second shot my hands were numb so it was probably mostly my fault.

Next I went to a time tested load out of the 700. A .430 300g XTP with 80g BH and a Win Primer. That group is very typical when I do my part.

Lastly I tried the 200g XTP with 110g 777 and a STS. Again, not a very tight group but at this point I had a nephew who was screaming to leave and I was froze out.

I used the same paper weather shrouds from my previous test. As you can see, the Win primers were quite a bit dirtier than the STS’. However, all the shots were a lot cleaner than that with the Cabela’s conversion.

Any of you who have shot a 700ML know that the 209’s most of the time comes apart. With the new conversion they held together but as you can see, it swelled considerably. They still removed easily with a fingernail. No tool needed.

Overall, I’m very pleased. The blowback is drastically reduced. I can’t say for sure about accuracy but even with me in my frozen state I still managed to shoot decent groups for the circumstances. I think in better conditions it would produce far better results. Cleanup was a cinch. There was very little dirt in the bolt internals. All the primers I tested fit just fine. I think the current length is just right. Any longer and I do not think it would accommodate the longer primers.

Hope this has been informative for some of you. I enjoyed testing it and thanks to Sabotloader for letting me play.

I really appeciate you taking the time to run these tests for me.

The picures of your primers tells me a lot and more importantly the fact that a paper weather shroud held up is a huge indicator of the lack of the presence blow back pressure.

Take you. I will make a couple of refinements and give it another go....

Interesting.Do you think that the condition of the spent primers indicate that the 209's maybe too much when you can send all the power down the barrel.

The problem is mostly my designed... I used the diameter of a Knight firing pin. I will go back and turn it down to a more narrow pin, probably .100 which will reduce the size of the hole in the bushing. As it is the firing pin hole is to large and allows the primer to be pushed up inside.

If you look a TN primers you can see the line around the prime where there were force insde the the hole.

That is exactly why i wanted test runs run by other folks. I'll get that change made make a new bushing and try again....
