Default Speaking of cleaning

I was down in Chambersburg, PA a few weeks back and stopped in Ft Chambers Gun Shop (all black powder supplies). I picked up some 5/16" ramrod ends to make some fiberglass ramrods for the 32 cal. and a few other odds and ends.
I saw some cleaner on the shelf called Turkey Tracks BP solvent. I asked the owner about it and he makes and packages it himself. Like a 10 oz bottle for $4.95. You plug the nipple or flashole with a round toothpick and pour about 2 tablespoons down the bore. Slosh is around a bit to coat the entire bore and let it sit for 10 mins. Then you pour it out of the bore, wet a patch with it and swab. Then just run dry patches through the bore until they come out clean. Then lube the bore.
This stuff works great. The only thing I did different than the directions was that when I was done cleaning, I swabbed the bore with an alcohol patch then a dry patch to get rid of any residual moisture. Then I coated the bore with Montana Xtreme Bore Conditioner. The inside the bore is mirror clean.

Did you find out what is in it? Can you smell it and tell? If it works and your happy that's all that matters. But for me regular old dish soap and water works.

I'm a soap and water guy myself. But I recently bought three bottles of Hornady "One Shot" cleaner. http://www.hornady.com/store/One-Sho...nd-Protectant/ The instructions are about the same as what Bronko described.

The only reason I bought it was a local sporting goods store had it on close out for eighty-eighty cents a bottle. I swear it has pine oil in it. It cleans pretty well, but no better than soap and water. It does however leave a slightly oily feel to the metal. But I still alcohol wipe and oil the bore.

Semi I hope those fiberglass rods are coated with something protective. Fiberglass cuts barrels almost as good as a file. Lee

The only time those rods go down the bore is in a hunting situation Lee. Otherwise, its a stainless rod with a bore protector and stop collar for bullet seating, and wood or flexible (delrin?) rods fow swabbing.

Well I never did give it a whiff. But I just did and I think I detect a hint of Murphy's oil soap in it. But what the heck, I'll use it until it is empty.
Semi - did you like that Hornady One Shot BP cleaner? I read about it but haven't seen any yet.

I do bronko. It works pretty well. But I bought it mostly because of the ridiculously low close out price and I liked the spray bottle (Which I'll refill with dish soap and water). I wouldn't buy it at the regular price.

I also use those kind of spray bottles to spray Roundup on fresh cut stumps when I cut brush at the hunting lease. It stops them from resprouting.
