Default Barrel Conversion - Caplock to Flintlock

Have any of you guys ever removed the caplock breech plug from a Thompson Center or Green Mountain barrel and replaced it with a flint plug?

Yes, but if it is an older gun it can be a bit difficult. Most of the ones I did were from flinter to caplock. When I had the shop the correct tools were in it, like a gun vise mounted on a steel table that was bolted to a concrete floor and a hand made BP wrench with a 3 foot steel bar handle. I always soaked them in PB Blaster for a week to. Lee

Semi -T/C made a breech wrench that fit over the caplock breech to protect it from tooling marks and to allow another wrench to fit over it. But getting the breech off is only half the battle. installing the flinter breech was also time consuming if the barrel flats did not line up.
Best advice is to sell your caplock barrel and buy a flinter barrel.

I know you're right about that Bronko. But I've got a new unfired GM LRH 50 caliber barrel sitting in the closet that I haven't decided what to do with yet.

I have a possible deal working that might yield a TC Hawken caplock with a rusted barrel at a rock bottom price. I was thinking a LRH flintlock Hawken might be pretty neat. I think a lock is around $120. I could sell my barrel, but I don't think there are many LRH flint barrels around any more.
