Default Clean/Reliable primers for BH209

I've been using Win. 209 primers in my Endeavor with great results but I have read on here that some guys have had trouble with a few hang fires using these primers. What do you guys think is the cleanest, most reliable primer in cold and warm weather for BH209 use. Are the CCI 209M or the Fed. 209A primers any cleaner or more reliable.

I think there are a lot of variables that come into play when selecting the "best" primer for BH. Breech plug design, temperature of primers, temperature that you will be hunting in ect.

I used the Win primers for two years I think. Never had a problem w/hangfires in BPs that are approved for BH. I did have a few VERY slight hangfires with my 700ML which does NOT have an approved BP design.

Currently I'm using Rem STS for all my BH shooting now. They're not that dirty, they always ignite in all my BP designs and they're not so hot that they cut my BPs up.

I actually experienced an opposite affect by shooting the hot primers like Fed 209 and CCI M. They were SO hot that they were pushing the load off the charge (My personal conclusion) and I was getting hangfires.

I say all that to say: You're probably going to have to test some and see what works best for you. A lot of guys are using the hotter ones to ensure igniton in cold weather. I personally don't hunt in weather colder than the 20s and occasionally the teens. If you're afraid of them not going off and you don't experiece the same thing I did with the hotter ones, I'd use them.

My $0.02

I shoot an Endeavor also. I have tried a number of primers and come to the conclusion that a really clean 209 does not exist.
On the other hand some are better than others, but the biggest improvement I have seen is the modification that Sabotloader and I have been working on { I assume you have followed enough of our posts to know of that]. A lot of people think a hotter primer is needed in colder areas, I did some tests with the freezer and shot some when it was down in the teens and the STS and Win 209 for reloading work just fine for me. I tried the CCI 209M and it worked just fine so did the Chedite, I have come to believe that a Triumph , Endeavor, or any Encore and an Omega are fine with most primers. The Win. 209 STS and Chedite give me the best results for accuracy and the mod. makes a big difference in how fast the carbon accumulates.

I had issues with "hangfires" using regular 209 primers with blachhorn.
Switched to CCI 209M. Issue resolved.
