Default Power Stem to Lehigh Conversion...

Well, to much idle time on my hands today.

I decided to try another conversion, since I have several Knight Power Stem Breech Plugs.

I have to give Spitpatch creadit for first suggesting the 'Flash Channel Volume' theory to me and more ar less verified by Busta's thoughts.

This drawing should show what I am trying to sugggest when it comes to the volume of the 'flash Channel'

Further Busta has suggested the vent liner installed as far forward in the breech plug might also be an asset. With this information and the fact that I really do prefer the FPJ system to the NFPJ system, I decided to use a Knight Power Stem to accomplish this conversion using the thoughts originally expressed by Spit and Busta, actually the my thoughts and I believe Spits thoughts came about because of the new Knigh Vision NPFJ plug that is very clean.

Anyway headed to the shop with Power Stem in hand... You would not recognize it when it came back in the house....

Now I need some time to test it...

Mike, I have been doing some checking to and I am working on the blow back from the primer itself, I think I have stumbled into some thing. After I get a chance to do some more work on it I will e-mail you.

Mike

I think half the blow back is from the loose fitting Plastic jacket to the nipple of the Stem plug. It's very easy for the pressure to burp past the seal, hit the hex head/nut and exit back towards the bolt.

If you compare the Stem nipple to the Domed plug, you will see that the domed plug's nipple is a much tighter fit=greater Outside Diameter, This makes for less blowback from the start.

Now perhaps if you put one of those O-rings over the nipple first, then chamber a FPJ till it's tight against the ring, it would solve most of the blow back problem

Just a thought....

Yes, I agree with you about leakage around the FPJ - I am just hoping this might reduce some of the blow back by reducing some of the pressure. I have already tried the 'o' ring on the post... One shot takes care of the 'o' ring - it is gone so that gives yo usome idea of the pressure escaping at that point.

Another thing I am actually willing to live with a small amount of blow back in the breech area - my goal is reduction. In the case of the Knight, Idoubt it will ever be as clean as a Triumph and I really do not expect it to be. If Tom is able to incorporate his thought about making the FPJ cleaner into a new BP that will make a huge difference, but there would still be some.

My other problem is that I really do prefer the FPJ to the NFPJ in the Knight. The only way tht might change is a complete re-design of the Knight bolt and breech plug. It really would be nice if they would just produce the the U-slam bolt and BP and sale that to the public...

It was not perfect - but I believe it is 80% better than what I have been getting - I now wish i were not so darn cheap - should have used new FPJ's....
