Default Today: My StagHorn and 300 Grain XTPs

Range 50 meters
Gun: CVA StagHorn .50
Scope: Weaver Grand Slam 3X10X40
Bullet: 300 grain .430 XTP
Sabot: Green crush rib
Primer: Winchester shotgun
Wind: 12-15mph gusting to 22 mph blowing at my back

Very recently i had trouble putting down a big boar hog using the 240 grain .430 XTP and my StagHorn. The hog was hit in the shoulder but got up and took off. Had kind of a long chase that ended with the hog being shot two more times before expiring.

Decided that will not happen again so i took the StagHorn to the range to sight it in for the 370 grain Maxi Ball. The guns shoots Maxi Balls really well using 110 grains of 2F Pinnacle powder. i learned today it does not shoot worth a darn using 100 grains of 3F Pinnacle. The bullets were all over the place. See the black pasters. i used a lubed felt wad behind the bullet.

Since i had no 2F Pinnacle at the range i loaded the gun up with 90 grains of 3F Pinnacle and the 300 grain .430 XTP bullet in a crush rib sabot. No sight adjustments were needed. Had a nice 3 shot group until i decided to make it a 5 shot group. The last two shots were high.

After firing that group i loaded the gun with the 300 grain .452 XTP Magnum bullet in the long black sabot. The front sling ferrule hit the front rest when i fired and the shot went high. Loaded and fired again-on target.

The barrel was not swabbed during this short shooting session.

YES, now it's there....Falcon is that a Staghorn Magnum or just the Staghorn? I have both. Them ol Staghorns put a-lot of Deer meat on the table for me. That should do the job on Ms. Piggy. Let's see some after pic photos of the results.
(BP) p.s. Mike what did you do different?

That is a decent group. You should have no trouble anchoring a pig with that load combo.
