T/C 54 cal Renegade barrel arrives
Well even 2 blizzards didn't stop the trusty mail service. It only slowed it up quite a bit. I-90 opened up and the mail began to move again. Happily the barrel arrived today. Now I need to shoot it. So, Bronko what does it like the best? I was thinking 110 gr 777 and a 425 gr Great Plains conical to start. I might even have to take it hunting at least once..Darn ,here I was going to finish the season with the proHunter. But every gun deserves a chance at a deer Right??:woot:

It looks like an original TC barrel so it will be a 1/48 twist. My opinion only you would be ahead of the curve to go with the GM-LRH barrel in 50 cal.... you have a ton more options with conicals and sabots. These are LRH barrels on these two TC's... although i know longer have the Hawken stock - traded for another Renegade stock... both of these barrels a 15/16ths across the flats to reduce weight.... You can see that one is a Stainless and the other is blued... I now have a 3rd thanks to Semi This a target from one of my first outing with the LRH shooting 460 Bull Shops... Look @ the 90 grain load... and it has been very successful in the field also - a couple of nice whitetails would have been able to tell you that... but they are not speaking right now |
the 1:28 is what i am looking at,will have to wait awhile since i can't afford it now.mine is 1" barrel, will it accept the 15/16 without ant problems? been to the candy store lately lol!!

I have a 50 cal 1:28 twist barrel ,a 45 cal 1:28 barrel and a 50 cal 1:70 barrel but didn't have an original barrel. The 50 cal 1:28 that I have loves saboted bullets especially the barnes 290 gr and the dead center 340 gr . I haven't shot to many conicals in it. I usually use my Lyman as a conical shooter. It's a 54 with a 1:32 twist.. I'm sure the 50 cal will shoot the conicals I just never experimented with them. Good luck. That 50 cal 1:28 barrel I am sure you will like a lot |
my .54 renegade 1/48 shoots the 425gr. bufallo bullet pretty good with 80 gr t7-3f
if your going to try 110 gr.HOLD ON TIGHT!!! |

The Renegade stock will accept the 15/16ths barrel and it MAY require a little bit of tweaking to make it fit. Nothing difficut at all. I have made several of thses changes and I think Semi has done a couple... The one thing that you may have to do is to shorten the under rib just a bit to fit the Renegade - The under lug is located coorectly so the wedge should go in with out a problem. The tang on your current ML is a 1 inch tang so the barrel will be just a hair smaller all the way around. The nipple will line up very close. |
I am playing with my new barrel 54 cal. 1 in 66 twist special run by T/C 32" no QLA FLINTLOCK
I have the stock finished(Renegade) tang and about 2" into the barrel channel glass-beded,lock fitted all is left is to finish the stock. I like the hand rub finish Formby'sŪ Tung Oil Finish |
I always shot the 430 gr maxiball with 85 gr pyrodex out of the ole 54 renegade.at the range, i would slide one of those cheapy slip on pads over the butt end lol.when i shot deer with it i never felt the recoil.the rifle is a blast to shoot..only want to switch to the .50 due to all the products that are avaibile for it.
