Default New Accura-tight spot in barrel trying thor sizeing kit?

I bought a new Accura and haven't shot it yet. Cleaned the barrel good and went to try the test size pack of thors that Terry was so nice to send me. The .500 i tried first and went down without much pressure until i get to the area of the barrel where the lug is welded on before the breech end. It gets tight there. Then i tried the .501 and was pretty tight and when i got to the lug area it wouldn't go any farther and i had a heck of a time gettting it back out running it back from the breech back out to the muzzle. I asked Terry about that and he said a couple Accurea owners have reported the same problem and wonders if maybe it is warped slightly from the welding of the lug. One sent his back and the other kept shooting his. Any ideas on this? Should i just shoot it some first with other bullets before i try the sizeing of the thors or is this something i should bring to CVA's attention or just ignor and shoot other bullets. Appreciate others advice. thanks

cva probably would have you send it in for inspection. If you run a tight patch, can you feel it?

I just ran a tight patch, actually double patch on my spinjag and i could feel a spot right where the lug thing is to attatch the forearm. It was more like a over the hump feel but right at that spot. Did that many times. Then i tried the .500 thor and it went really easy down to about that spot and got tighter close to the breech plug area. Now when i run the double patch i can't feel that spot. Wonder if i just didn't get something cleaned out of the barrel from the factory well? I had ran an oil patch and maybe that loosened whatever was in that spot. Think i will just shoot it some and not be over sensitive to whatever it was. Sorry to bother you guys. thanks

If this a new gun it would be my suggestion to check in with CVA, not because of safety, but it could have detremental effect on accuracy especially shooting a full bore... shooting a sabot should not present a problem.

I am not real sure what i am going to shoot out of it yet. For the last few years i have been useing a sabot mostly a T/C shockwave or the like. Just wanted to try some full bore and see if i can make them shoot ok. DOn't shoot long ranges and only deer hunt. Used to use years ago just a plain 240 gr. lead sabot. Actually did as good as the newer style ones i have used the last few years. Think it is mostly shot placement.

My Beartooth Magnum was that way back in 05, It won't smooth out. this was caused by them welding on the barrel. welding caused the tight spot. I ended up lapping my barrel because it was a week before hunting in 05 when I discovered the tight spot and I wanted to hunt with this new fangled inline.

Send it back to CVA and let them replace it.

You should not be having that problem with a new gun. Send it back.

I called CVA customer service and they were very nice. He says that getting tighter down the bore towards the end of the fluted section is normal. Says they are built for powerbelt bullets and not really for sabots. Wasn't familiar with the thors. Said it all made sense but if i wanted at any time to send it in or for any reason. I think myself that any muzzle loader is made for sabots and have shot them out of all my guns Knights and CVA Wolf. Wanted to try the powerbelts and he recommends the 295 hollow points. I will shoot them with under 80 grains of pyrodex RS and see how they work. Will also try my sabots in it. I will say they were very nice about it. thanks guys

Built for powerbelts.. they actually said that about a Bergara barrel with a tight spot!

Do me a favor if you can... PM underclocked on this forum and ask him about your situation - what ever he suggests I go along with - but if it were mine - I would get it right.
