Default TMZ bullets with BH209

I just recently bought me a TC Pro Hunter with the muzzleloader barrel and I was working with some different loads and powder. The load that my gun seems to like the best is a 110 gr. of BH209 and a 290 gr Barnes TMZ bullet. I have shot several animals with this bullet and it performs great for me. The thing that I was really surprised about is how hard the second load is with this combination. I was not expecting it to be hard to load, I guess the tight bores on the TC causes this? Any thoughts?

I shoot the 285 gr. MZ out of my omega and the loads after the first shot are a little harder to load but not really that much more noticeable. There's nothing wrong with a tight load, but if it's real tight you may want to order some Harvester crush rib sabots for the boattail bullets and give them a try. They are yellow in color also. What primers are you using?

Some times TC barrels need a break in to polish them. Shooting conicals for a while may help, I personally like TC guns but they really should lap them considering the prices. I usually take polishing compound put it on some pure lead conicals and fire-lap or put it on some very heavy patches and hand polish the bore. When you have polished the bore you should not have that problem. The other thing known to cause that problem is if you do not clean the oil out of the barrel before the first shot. Swabbing a couple times with a alcohol patch the a couple of dry ones will usually take care of that. Lee

Im shooting the same load and love it, however.

I sighted this load in for the missouri rifle season. Six shots, 100 yards with softball size grouping in a vise. I noticed at 175 yards the bullet dropped quite a bit, and I couldnt get a solid grouping at all. Didnt need anymore range than 100 yards in the area Im hunting in. And yes its really hard to load, so I cleaned after every two shots.

However yesterday I shot TC Shockwaves (walmart special) 250 grain with 120 grain BH since i was low on Barnes. I hit the bulleye (2") 5 out of 6 times(total flyer 10" off) at 100 , and managed a softball size group at 175 with 3 shots. Easy to LOAD! I am very happy with it, however, I have had experiences with the Shockwaves not expanding.

Hope this helps.

I am using the Winchester 209 primers. I looked high and low around here for the CCI and could not find them anywhere.

I use the bore butter after cleaning instead of oil. I really like it better. I will try swabbing it down before my next round of range shooting. Muzzleloader season opens this weekend here in Missouri, and I don't have a buck tag but I do have unlimited doe tags and plan on doing some ballistic research and filling the freezer!!
