Default Question about hunting in lots of snow

With all the snow we have gotten in the last couple of days, I can only imagine how hard it would be to drag a deer out of the woods. I have never hunted in this much snow. But I have walked my hunting grounds after the season when there has been alot of snow, not to mention the drifts. So, anyone have any pointers in draging something out in deep snow?

Get a toboggan or at least one of those plastic kid's sleds. Makes dragging through snow pretty easy.

ATV if you can reach it. I have a friend that claims he drags his out on a blue plastic tarp. He wraps the deer in it, folds the tarp over the head and around the neck and that's where he attachs the rope. I never saw him drag one out that way, but he claims it makes it easy. I am lucky, I cut logging trails through my woods so I take the ATV. They go through a lot more snow then people think.

I use one of the plastic toboggan sleds from Cabela's used for your Duck, geese decoys and supplies. It works great and I have dragged many a deer out with it, as long as the snow is'nt too deep.
Good luck as were getting the same snow storm as your are right now, and were looking at mabey 3 feet by the end of it. Our Late ML Season starts Monday so it will be a tough one.

Thanks guys, my son never uses his sled anyways, so I might just as well put it to good use. Now if I can just shake this cold I have in the next couple of days.

Your Wish was Granted Dave, all last night we got Pounded by the Snow and Wind, Im about 50 miles South of Buffalo and if you watched the news lately you saw what we got, and Im in the Traditional Snow Belt Area so we got MORE! A couple feet+++ it's still snowing and blowing as I write this. As I look outside my 4 wheel drive truck is hardly visable in the drive, the snow keeps pileing up.
This Mornings Hunt should be a true test to one's Love of Hunting. But with only 3 day's left of our Shotgun Season it has to be done, then 9 day's of Late ML Season. Temps are in the Minus Didgets and boy is it COLD! My wife say's Im Crazy to go out in this, but there's a Unpicked 100acre Corn Field where I Hunt and every deer for Miles will be there, and it will be just me!
Wish me Luck!

Even without the sled, its not to bad. The body of the deer acts a the sled packing the snow beneath it. Pulling your feet out of the deep stuff is what stinks. I had to drag a deer 200+ yards last year in about 8 inches of snow to the truck. Few (alot of) breaks, catch the ole breath and get at it. Plus, with snow its that much easier to track!!
