Default NJ Smokepole Opener...Got One!!!!

My friend and I hunted today here in NJ for the opener of the smokepole season, we take anysize buck and mature does, this is public land, tough hunting.

This morning I saw a small buck chasing some does, way out range, then I saw a bobcat, about 45 mins later the buck returns still out of range.

Around 9:10am my friend took a shot but missed, I see the 3 deer, 2 of them are does they run off away from me, and I lost sight of the 3rd one. So about 5 mins later I hear walking and the spike is walking towards me, he comes within 15 yards of me and I shot him in the neck of course he dropped.

I popped the cherry of the Triumph!!!!!

Good shooting BHC. I love a neck shot when conditions are right.

Wink

Where did you get this deer? Are you hunting down in the Pines?

It had been a long time since I hunted in NJ. When I hunted there back in the late '50s as a kid, it was a greast hunt if you even sighted a deer. They were few and far between back then.

Great buck and good eatin'.
