Default Omega, Genesis: Range

Well I had to do a little sight-checking today. Conditions were far from ideal. I was shooting from my pickup bed in a left-to-right wind of about 15mph. The wind moved both me and my pickup, but results were surprising considering this.

The Remington Genesis was loaded with 100gr RS, 250gr Shockwave, T7 primer. Shots averaged about 2" right (wind, remember) with about 1/2" vertical play. At 90yds, it grouped 3 shots best @ 1.5" with a 7x scope. Normally I use a heavier charge, but had to see what it would do at 100gr, as I'm loaning it out for a more recoil-shy friend. I'm pleased, needless to say.

The Omega scope was off quite a bit (not shocking, with the 1500 miles of road it's been through). The load was 125gr RS, 250gr shockwave, T7 primer. Scope at 7x. After I adjusted it, groups averaged about 2.5" right, with 3/4" vertical play and 1 3/4" 3-shot group. A 4th shot was put into the measured group, and it was perfect for windage, but about 2.5" above the others. I'm guessing heat and me shaking were the culprits. I didn't want to move the scope over too far left, as I wasn't sure how much deflection the wind was causing--so I just got it close enough.

No barrel-cooling time was allowed for either gun, which may explain some of the vertical play in the groups. Each gun was given a fouling shot. The Omega wasn't affected with a fouling shot, but the Genesis was with a change in elevation--about 2". With that much wind, differences in gusts, and a somewhat shakey shooting platform, I think I can live with how these guns shot today.

Sounds like you have everything under control there. That is some good shooting from both rifles.
