i have decided to change from pyrodex powder to 777 powder, i now use 80 grains of pyrodex. if i use 80 grains of 777 how will my bullet impact change?, i don't want to use too many shots as powder and bullets are getting higher all the time. i now have my optima shooting dead on at 100 yds with pyrodex, i checked with hodgen and they reccomend dropping the charge down to 65 with 777 to make bullet impact the same. i would like to know from ya'll that have made the switch to 777 and how ya'll did, it seems 65 is a little light and besides my measure only goes in 10 grain increasements so i could drop to 70 if thats true. thanks for any help.
T7-2f is about all that I use... if you are wanting to stay close to your Pyro load I would suggest 70 grains of T7. Hodg is awful proud of their T7 and indicate that it is 15% stronger than BP or the Pyros' - I really think it is closer 10%....
The only way you are really going to know is load up and shoot.... In most of my inlines I use 110 grains - but for years 100 grains was my standard load.

I agree with Sabotloader. There probably won't be that much of a difference. Whoever at Hodgen told you that was blowing Triple 7 smoke. You didn't mention what bullet you are using, but I think I would just stick with the 80 grain load for the first couple of shots and see what happen.

thanks guy's, i was planning on shooting anyway just wanted to get as close as i could to save on powder and ammo. i'm useing a 295 grain powerbelt hollow point, i just didn't want to go too light on the charge. oh i just thought i would ask this, is 777 really that easier to clean and powerfull than pyrodex?

I haven't found that much difference in clean up between Pyrodex and T7, and always considered T7 just a "tad" more powerful.
Velocity will vary with different guns/bullets/sabots, so this is only one example. But in my Lyman Mustang with the same 300 grain bullet and sabot and a 100 grain charge, T7 will beat Pyrodex by about 100 fps.

IMHO cleanup is much improved. I just use straight water and am done in 5-6 patches. Pyrodex always took me a lot more to get it all out and I had to use additions to the water.
In terms of power, I agree it's 10-15% more powerful.
Cleanup with T7 is much easier for me. Pyrodex is a good powder, but I think it is much dirtier. I don't have a chrono, so I can't say the difference in power, but the other guys I'm sure have it right. Personally, I'd try 70 grains and see where you're hitting- it should be close. That should be a good deer load out to at least 120 yards.

You guys who use T7 ... do you have trouble with crud ring? If not ... have you done anything to alleviate it or is it just no problem?
I've only shot it in stainless barrels and in all of them I'd get a noticeable crud ring after only one shot. Not for sure why I had this problem. Maybe the lube on the conicals?
