Default Do I have a scope problem or was it from using different powders?

So I sighted in my Remington Genesis with 100 grains of T7 pellets. 2 50 grain pellets. I used a Powerbelt 295 grain bullet. I got it shooting pretty good. I packed it up and took it home and cleaned it. I decide d I was going to use Pyrodex pellets instead of T7 ones so I wanted to check and make sure it was still hitting close to where I had sighted it in for. To my surprise I didn't hit the target the first shot. The second shot I aimed low and found out that it was shooting about 6-7" lower than where I had sighted it in before. This is at 100 yards BTW.

Now my scope is a Leupold VX-I and I honestly can say I don't have a ton of faith in this scope as I've had to send it into Leupold twice. This time when I got it back I put it on here. Would the difference between 100 grain of T7 pellets and 100 grain of Pyrodex pellets made that much of a difference? or is my scope acting up again? I shot 6 or 7 times after getting it adjusted and it did fine.

thats a great question.. I think T7 is hotter than pyrodex.. Which would make sense if it was shooting lower with the pyrodex (lower velocity)

I reckon the only way to really tell is to shoot it with the Pyrodex again and see if it is consistent groupings..

You may also want to check rings/bases..

In pellet form, they are suppose to be very similar in strength. There should not have been that much difference. I personally would check it with the open sights at 50 yards and then re mount the scope and try it again. Watch close when you mount the scope. Even a little off, and it can make all the difference in the world. What kind of quick release scopes rings are you using? I know nothing about your scope, but I shoot a Genesis too. And I take my Nikon Omega scope on and off all the time. It always shoots back to where it was.

T7/Pyrodex normally ( for me) have never shot close to the same POI. I could sight in with T7 and then switch to pyrodex and have my shots 6 to 7 inches to the right a 3" high.

I'm not sure what the quick release rings are. I think they are Traditions. They were whatever were recommended on here. I did get the see through rings though as I wanted to try them out. Not sure I'd get them again but they work ok I guess. Everything seems to be tight. I guess after bringing it home and cleaning it I will take it back out and try it again since I'm wanting to try my other one before the season starts too.

Has this been the pellets or powder?

After the luck I had with Triple Seven pellets this year, I will never buy them again. I like Pyrodex RS pellets. They shoot well and while they are a little more fouling.. SO WHAT!! Clean the rifle at the end of the day and there is not a problem with Pyrodex RS at all.

Although I admit to never having shot pellets, several guys in my hunting group use them. With that limited experience I would say do yourself a favor and buy loose powder instead of pellets. T7 & Pyrodex are both good - it's a flip of a coin as to which one to get.
