Default TC Hawken Barrel Twist History

I am not familiar with the history of the TC Hawken. Has TC always used a 1/48 in their production Hawkens? Or did some of them come with a 1/28.

I'm not speaking of the drop in GM barrels. I know you can buy those in a variety of twists, I'm speaking of the barrel that comes with the production Hawkens.

Thanks in advance

Yes, the Hawken and Renegade were standard 1:48 twist primarily designed to shoot the patched round ball and mini-ball or TC maxi-ball. My .54 Renegade is deadly accurate with 100 grains Pyrodex and either patched round ball or TC Maxi-Hunter.

Very early on I think there were a few 1-66 twist barrels out there. These were when you sometimes ran into a Douglas barrel or two. But for the most part, T/C are 1-48 twist.

That's what I was thinking but I wanted to be sure. Thanks

I think some of the earlier Hawkens and Renegades could be bought with 1:66 twist but most are 1:48 twist. I have never seen anything other than the 1:48 twist but the early model I had was a tack driver with roundballs.

TC made the Firestorms in 1:28 twist when they first came out but most are 1:48. They also made some 1:66 and some 1:38 twist PA hunter rifles. The Greyhawk and the White Mountain rifles came with 1:20 twist at one time and 1:38 twist as well. These are sidelock guns they had made. I have a flinter PA Hunter with QLA that is 1:66 twist with .010 deep cut grooves and has left hand twist (very accurate). Don't know who would have supplied this barrel to TC. The PA Hunter came in a variety of barrels; some had button rifling and some had cut rifling and some were 1:48 twist as well.

Perhaps some early T/C Hawkens were offered with a 1-66 " twist, but It would surprise me..

As I remember it, T/C was pushing its maxi-ball right from the get -go...

I suspect that nearly all factory TC Hawkens have been 1-48 for that reason..

TC has a barrel twist rate chart on their website that I believe covers everything they have ever made.

Looks like there were a few Hawken 1:66s.
