Well I hadn't had any luck filling my Antelope tags and since we can hunt anterless deer during Antelope season I decided I wanted to at least get some venison on the table. I have a lot of doe tags anyway, so I figured i might as well use one.
I had my Knight Disc Extreme , which is my Antelope gun. You can blow a prairie dog to pieces at 200 yards with it. I was shooting 130 gr 777, 250 gr shockwave in the black sabot and Nikon omega scope. The shot was only 107 yards. She dropped on the spot . I was without any of the kids so I had a heck of a time getting her loaded up. ( gee I'm getting old and weak) Any way ,only 2 more days til Antelope season ends, so I guess i will try again. Next week is my refuge muzzleloader hunt. Then to fill time til deer season in mid november I have Turkey tags and Bow tags. Officially muzzleloader season doesn't start til Dec 12th but I only hunt with blackpowder,( other than bow of course) so every season is muzzleloader season for me.
Antelope gun 50 cal Knight Disc extreme
Refuge gun: Lyman 54 cal great Plains rifle
Deer season : T/C Triumph
Muzzleloader season: Lyman 54 cal or T/C hawken 50 cal.

Wow!! that is a nice looking doe. Nice sized. Congratulations on the doe. I need to ask... what's better eating, deer or antelope?

It's really hard to compare, but I guess deer is better. I like a variety of meat though. We raise all of our meat except for what we shoot. As a family of 10 you can't just run to the store and buy steak. We raise boer cross meat goats, broilers, a couple feeder pigs and meat rabbits. I get quite a few deer but Antelope is good also, even the bucks. I have an "any antelope" tag and a doe/fawn tag. If you smoke the antelope it is really good, especially with mesquite wood. I like to make jerky out of it also. Some people think it tastes bad, or wild or gamey they say. It tastes different but that doesn't mean it tastes bad , it just tastes different. I personally like it. I also have Turkey tags . We usually fill the freezers pretty full this time of year.
I would have had an Antelope but someone scared them away before they were quite close enough. A real bummer. I had waited for almost 2 hours watching a small herd of 18 . They worked their way from 500 yards from me to about 260 yards away. I was going to let them get to 200 yards then take one out. A car driving by about a 1000 yards away saw them. He made a u-turn and came back to take a look. He drove back to where he was straight south of them and sat there looking. They saw him watching and decided to run north. I was kinda bummed out after having sat there so long watching and waiting. They were almost in range. OH well, such is life

It seems we all have different tasters, but to me antelope is quite tasty. Over the years we have eaten many different critters, and have become some fussy about venison. The lady used to insist on cow elk, but now that i am getting along in years, she was willing to give doe deer a try. This last year she has been quite happy eating doe deer, but she can tell even a yearling buck in one bite.
The thing that always gets me about pronghorn, is one can kill the biggest, baddest, stinkiest buck, in the neighborhood, and he tastes, and smells okay in the kitchen. When one dresses him and gets his smell on one's hands, it sticks for what seems like forever, and doesn't easily wash away. One would assume he will not taste so very good. Yet, when he is cooked he tastes and smells good. Whereas a big stinky buck deer, smells like urine in the kitchen, and doesn't taste very good either.
Our boy likes pronghorn better than elk, so he say, but i am not going to buy into that. He should know though; as many elk and antelope as he has killed.
