Default Jsg

Went to the range after my unsuccessful morning hunt to sight in my Sidekick. Was shooting Jim Shockey Gold and boy was that stuff dirty. After two shots my cleaning patch was black. Maybe APP put real black powder in by mistake
Have you guys noticed this?

I never shot JSG but have shot a lot of APP. I never had black fouling with the APP but did get a white build up of something near the muzzle of the rifle after a couple shots.

Only shot the regular APP and that stuff worked great for me. Pyro RS is cheaper to shoot though, so that's what I use!

Used a lot of JSG and found it to be a very clean burning powder. Was there oil or grease in your barrel?

There shouldn't have been any oil left as I had already put several rounds through it. I was shooting Pinnacle before I bought the JSG and it only left a grayish film... this was black.

The residue is probably carbon and black like soot. If the JSG was ffg, then maybe it's so chunky that it just doesn't burn as clean. If their ffg has huge granules like cannon powder that might explain some of the extra soot.

Some of my best groups have been made with JSG. Used JSG for hunting for about three years. The second longest shot i ever made on an animal was with JSG: Killed a sow at a measured 192 yards. JSG has some peculiar traits. It likes a tight fitting sabot seated very hard on the powder: Lean on the ramrod until you can feel the powder compress.

Started using Goex Pinnacle a couple years ago but still use some JSG from time to time. Pinnacle is made by the folks who make JSG-American Pioneer Powder. Pinnacle is more powerful that JSG.

It is really nice to be able to fire a muzzleloader 10 or more times without swabbing between shots. It is also nice to be able to get the breech plug out easily. JSG and Pinnacle allow a shooter to do both.
