Well there is a case where teaching your children to read came in real handy. Good luck this season. Hope you and your daughter have a good hunt.

You should buy the little lady some chocolate Halfbaked.

I've had two of those "Oops" experiences over my long hunting career.

Louisiana now issues doe tags that are good for the entire season. But years ago we had two or three "doe days" and the rest of the entire season was bucks only. I once sat in a tree near the end of a deerless season and watched a doe feed around me for twenty minutes or so, only to find out when I got home that it was a doe day.

The other time, my brother-in-law and I made a four-hour morning hunt on a Wildlife Management Area. Luckily, we didn't connect with game because when we returned home we found out that particular WMA was closed to hunting that week.

I done that one year deer hunting. I thought the season had ended, and then was talking to a friend who asked me if I was headed out in the morning. I told him season was closed. He then told me, that the State had extended the season. I mean all my gear was put away, my stands down, blinds in, rifles cleaned... But I did grab some hunting clothes, and walked around a little that following weekend but saw nothing.

I think the worst... not legal day was... fishing. In one part of the State, Large Mouth Bass season was open (where I was from). In a different part, it was a week later (which I did not know).

My friend and I was out in my boat and hooked into the biggest Grand Daddy Bass of my entire life. I battled that thing for ages on an Ultra Light and finally landed it, in my boat. I mean this thing was huge. My friend fishing with me then announced, shame Bass season is not open. I argued with him for a few minutes but really was not positive. I mean this was the wall hanger I urned for all my life, and of course no camera in the boat. I then told him I would (and did) throw it back, but if I learned he was not telling me the truth, I would stomp him back into the stone age. He was right, and is still alive and my fishing buddy. But he loves to tell people of the day I threw a monster fish back.
