Default Speed breech evaluations?

Because I tend to find something that works and then stick with it, I've been content with my 2 Omegas and short of building a sabotless smokeless ML I don't plan on needing another long ML anytime soon.

However, the speed breeches have been on the market for a number of years now. I've always been curious -- how do they hold up? How long do you get out of one? Do the O-rings wear out?

I'm always tentative about buying a gun that has proprietary parts that are hard to replace (re Knight going out) and I shoot my guns enough that I'd wear them if they wear.

Just interested to hear people's experiences...I expect them to become more common on future models so I'll need to know eventually.

Well thing have changed when it comes to that. The vent liners especially the Lehigh are an easy modification an for 5 dollars and a couple of minutes you have a brand new one. As far as how long the original lasts the first one that came in my Triumph which I bought right away when they first came out just got to the point where I needed to do some thing about it, and while I replaced it I was working on putting a vent liner in it right away as I knew I could fall back on the new one. It has a vent liner in it and I have been shooting it quite a bit since then. When I bored the hole to thread I bored it all the way through and then only threaded it as far as I needed, it works much better than original as it does not carbon up even 25% of what it used to and I think it actually improve the accuracy. It also makes it much easier to give a good cleaning as I take the vent liner out a couple times a year and clean every thing to a polish.
This will also work quite well on the Omega as Mike did his and likes it [ He use a different method and threaded his all the way through] He used a lathe and I do not have one any more as I let it go with the shop when I sold it. If you have a milling table on your drill press it is easy to do well with out a lathe.
I have replace 3 in the 5 years I have owned the Omega but won't need to again.
As you probably know from being on here I shoot more than most, using about 15 to 18 pounds of powder a year, and I suspect one of the new peed Breach plug would last a lot of people a life time. Sorry I got so long Lee
