Default Question On Casting Your Own Bullets

My good friend I work with wants to know is there something he can do to make his bullets expand better. He is using just pure lead and I believe a maxi-hunter mold.He has already made a couple hundred but thinks they dont expand very well.Is there something he can add or do to help with expansion of his bullets. Thanks for any advice anyone can give so I can pass it on to him.Been gone a while and cant wait for opening day.Mike

If its soft lead it should expand fine. If he has a drill press, maybe make a slight hollow point in the tip of the bullet to aid in expansion. Or aim for heavy bone like the shoulder.

Assuming we're talking 50 cal., some expansion is desireable, but not really necessary. I'll take 2 50 cal. holes over an entry hole and a mushroomed bullet that does not exit every time.

It's the stuff that you add to lead that makes it harder. wheel weights contain antimony and arsenic to make them hard. Pure lead should work just fine.
