Default White Ultra Mag and triple seven 2f

I have noticed that my Bison really liked Triple Seven 2f instead of the 3f. Since I had to get my White .504 Ultra Mag ready for season, I decided to see how it liked the 2f Triple Seven.
The rifle target according to my range finder was at 30, 32, & 31 yards. So I call it 30 yards which will be fine for what I want to do with it. The rifle had a 2-7x32mm Nikon Pro Staff scope and quick release rings made by Warne. I was shooting some .5045 Bull Shop 460 grain conicals.
I got on the bench and looked at the powder measure. It was set a 90 grains of powder. I figured, what the heck. So I loaded the White and aimed at a upper right corner bulls eye. At 30 yards I expect great accuracy so anything less in disturbing.

I can assure you, this is a power house of a load. Of course being 70 degrees today and having a T shirt on, I got the full brunt of the recoil. Not uncomfortable, but it let you know you fired it.
Actually the very first shot off a clean barrel was the 9 o'clock hit. After that it just started to stack them. I then swabbed the barrel clean, and I do mean clean. I moved the measure down just at or under 85 grains..

The first shot was a little high, and then it started to put them into where I wanted them again. I never swab the White when shooting. Only when I change powder charges or distances. So I swabbed it clean again using Rusty Duck Black Off solvent, and decided to try 70 grains of powder which the rifle normally likes a lot.

Now granted, this is 30 yards, but I have to say (I only shot three times because I chickened out) for a three shot group, I can sure handle that. I should say, I know I fired three times at that target. But again, that was really good. So good in fact that I made a slight scope adjustment to move the POI over a little. I then swabbed the rifle clean and loaded only 60 grains of powder this time.

60 grains was not as good as 70 for accuracy, but still not bad and according to many of the DWB's more then enough power for deer. It was also a real pleasure to shoot. No recoil to speak of. But I had an itch. With the scope adjusted, I swabbed the barrel clean, and let it cool down, and me too.
I decided to shoot a five shot group with 70 grains at the center of the target. I was really going to concentrate on every thing about shooting.

It was not one hole, but for a five shot group, I will take it. Again, this is only 30 yards with a scoped rifle. And most of all a White Rifle. While I was hot today, I want to move this load back to 75 yards. I am not sure of the drop, and will probably never have to shoot that far, but for my own satisfaction, I hope I can shoot something out to there if the need should arise.

90 grains is what I use with the 460 Bullshop in the White or even the GM-LRH... I really like that load and the guns seem to cooperate....

Gotta say you sure made good use of that target.... and as always great shooting...

I really want to get out saturday and do some shooting wtih this new DISC Elite I just got. I installed one of the Breech Plugs that I drilled out so I can use Lehigh Vent Liners in it....

I have a 22 inch barrelled M97 in .451 and that thing will flat out shoot. I actually think for longer range that little White M97 in .451 is a "little" more accurate then the Ultra Mag. I would not want to live on the difference, but I was reading posts from the other White owners with the .451. And they were knocking deer down at some amazing distances with them big conicals. That's why I wanted one so bad. Traded off a heck of a rifle to get it too. Mine likes Bull Shops 460 grain, and it will just do the same thing .. shoot and shoot.

For those that never handled or shot a White, they are built like a tank. My Ultra Mag is actually kind of heavy because of the laminated stock, but it eats recoil like crazy. This was only 30 yards, so I expected no less from this rifle. Although one day shooting at 100 yards, I shot a 1-1/4 inch group with the Ultra Mag. The best I ever did, but it does tell me what the rifle is able to do.

Before I ever bought my first White, I listened to White owners telling me how they could shoot and shoot without swabbing, and how accurate the rifles were. It was kind of hard to believe actually. Then I got my Ultra Mag and fell in love with a rifle. Although it is a boring rifle to shoot. As it does this kind of thing all the time.

Also, their stainless steel must be really good. I take my time cleaning my rifles of course, but after I was done and was checking it over, the only mark I can find on it is where the stock rubbed the barrel a little. Other then that, the bore is a perfect as the day I bought then thing.

Nimrodder, you have a lightening don't you? Sabotloader, have you shot a elk yet with that White using a conical? I know Redclub has and he really swears by that conical shooting White he's got.

Nim.. I just saw, you got two of them Lightnings. They are supposed to be really sweet rifles from all the posts I have read on them.

Dave, my 2 White Lightnings are the most accurate ML's I own. The last time I shot them I fired 3 shots at 50 yards and got one big ragged hole so I packed up and headed home. No sense in wasting powder and bullets. My first Lightning likes 70gr of Swiss 3F and 496gr Trashcan the other one shoots a 460 Bullshop and 65gr of 3F (no wad) and does real well with a 250gr Mz Expander and 80gr of 3F. Like you I usualy shoot my deer within bow range so the rainbow trajectory of them big bullets don't bother me a bit. BUT if I do need to stretch it out there I'll use that Barnes bullet. I get 1.5" groups at 100 yards with it. But then again the last time I shot a deer past 100 was 12 years ago.

I thought those DWB's were full of crap until I broke down and bought a S91 in .504. I'm glad I called their bluff LOL.

The MK85 is a Knight not a White. But the MK85 is a very good rifle.

Whites are usually listed as a .504 caliber, .451, .410 and there is a .54 caliber something. There are a number of different models of White. There is the Whitetail, Bison, Lightening, Blacktail, Thunderbolt, M97, M98, Super 91 and a Super 91-II.. I am sure there are other ones.
