No.

You need to use your volume measure first and throw some 120gV charges. Then Wiegh them on your reloading scales.
Make a note of how much the Volume load Wieghs, then continue to use that Weight Number# for your 120gVolume load.

I think you will will find that Shockey's will weight out to be about .92gW for every 1gV. so about 100gV=92gW or so.

Fred the tubes are not designed to be used that way powder should be weight separately. If you do decide to do any weighting with the tubes included then weight the tubes first and if there is more than a few 10's of a gr variation then mark the weight on each tube so you can keep things accurate. Actually I weight my powder for a year and did not see any improvement so I just use the U-view measure that scrapesthe powder level with the funnel. Lee

I use an adjustable brass measure for my charges. The measure is filled a little over and then it is struck off with my finger. I tried weighed charges and found that there was little, if any, difference in accuracy when compared with volume charges. IMO: It ain't worth the trouble.

JSG is a good clean powder. It likes a tight fitting sabot seated hard on the powder.

Fred
There should not be any thing like that much difference. Do you understand that the volume measure gives the amount of volume equivalent in strength to that much black powder? As an example a 100 gr by volume measure should be 70 gr by actual weight.
The best and simplest way to set up loads by weight is to measure 5 load out with the volume measure and then weight them and take the average to use as your weight for your scale. Each sub has a different weight but the are made to be use with a black powder volume measure.
Keep asking till you understand, overloading to much can cause problems. Lee

I don't know whether this is right or wrong, but this is what I do. Try tapping down the powder in your vol. measurer, then top off. I think you will see a more consistent read on your scale. Adjust from there.

Default Weighing Charges

If all things were equal then you could weigh your charges for better consistency. However(IMO) I do not believe all things are equal. Moisture can effect the weight of your charge. So for me volume measurement is the most consistent, and that can even be effected by moisture.

IMO this moisture is what gives all us BP shooters so much trouble.

The shooters who I have seen that are the most consistent are the shooters that try to keep their components as consistent as possible. Including a cadence when they pour powder into their powder measure. The actual amount of powder flow will even effect the actual amount of powder that goes into your measure.

I realize you are trying to keep your powder more consistent by weighing it. However weigh some charges under different moisture contents, and you will see a difference in your volume. Tom.

Moisture is easily controlled by keeping (Silica Gel)Desiccant packs in all your powder cans. They are cheap and readily available. There really is no excuse for moisture contaminated powder anymore

Ebay too!

I use a 2x2 inch packet in all my powder-black subs and smokeless. The powder pours right past the larger packets better, and won't clog spouts/funnels.

I then weigh all my loads and transfer to some air/water tight tubes. Easy as pie :-)

Silica works great. You can reuse your packets time and time again. Just throw them in the oven for about an hour at 175 degrees. Once packets are "dry" I store them in a peanut butter jar until ready to use.
