Default A little Round Ball homework

I casted these out of that 5lb lead pipe a forum member gave me. I wanted to check the hardness of them and seem to be perfect. All were shot at 50 yards into my sand bucket. I was going to test 90gr charges too but i ended up shooting them out of my kentucky into my 100 yard target. I'll need to work on new patch material for that rifle.

CVA Plainsman .50cal Flintlock, 70 3F Goex @ 50 yards.

I lost one ball as it exited my sand bucket.

Same rifle but with 80gr 3F Goex,

Shot 3 a flinch maybe?

Boy i wish we had hogs here. I'd be out hunting them every day and have the deep freeze, full of meat.

Balls are fun. Yesterday I cast 125 .575 balls for my Zouave which I haven't shot in quite a while because I was out of balls. I wonder how they would do in your sand bucket.

Once the correct load combination has been found round balls can be very accurate out to 100 yards.

Did you measure the balls diameter and if so what was the reading?

The 70gr charge balls - .789" & .876"

80 gr Charge balls - .800" - .774" & the big smeared ball measures just under 1 & 1/4"

None of these lost more than 4 grains.
