Default hogs

Was up at the cabin building fence this past weekend and when I checked the cameras, to my suprise was several pics of hogs. All the pics are between midnight and 4am several nights in a row. Would sure love to pop one of them rascals if I could just get them to come out in the daytime. Any Ideas?

Bait them in the morning and shoot them in the afternoon

In my experience it's going to be tough to get them moving during the day Greg, especially during the heat of thesummer. I've hadgame cameras on two food plots continuously since last September.Got maybe two hundredpicturesof hogs, but probablyno more than a dozen daylight ones. Like yours, most of mine are between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.

As Cayugad said, your best bet is to bait them on a daily basisand hope they get in the habit of going to the site early tobeat the coons and deer to the bait. An automatic feeder throwing a pound ortwoof corn ever morning (or morning and afternoon)is all you need. It may take them two or three weekstopattern on the corn. When your camera tells you they are coming on a regular basis you can set up for a hunt. They're smart critters. Poor eyesight but mighty sharp noses and ears.

I took Daves advice and it worked for me. Semisane is in a different situation. With food plots you can't dictate when the animals will get fed. With a feeder you can. I had this one boar that I really wanted but he would only show himself after dark. Dave told me to set the feeder to go off earlier and to distribute less corn. I made the adjustments and it worked like a charm. Not only did he start coming out during daylight hours, he started coming out twice a day during daylight hours.

If it is legal get a night scope and sit out there at night an get'em. That is if you don't have a feeder. We are very limited in Wis about when and how much and where we can feed. But than we don't have a huge pig problem like lots of area's.

The hogs are coming to my feeders that are in my food plots. There set to go off at 8am and 4pm for 4 sec intervals. This doesnt seem to be working to good. Maybe they will change their habits. Three years ago I shot 2 hogs at the cabin in early sept. Havent actually seen one since that day, but we see their sign around from time to time. This past fall they really moved in tearing up the pastures and routing up the woods, but would never show themselves in the daytime. They sure are a hard animal to patteren. The funny thing about it is they really dont bother my food plots. There filled with clover, chicory, and lespeda in the summertime. I thought they would be tearing them up. Hmmmmmm not sure what to do now.

Do you normally put your feeder in your food plot?

Personally, I would set the feeder to where the second serving goes off closer to the first. Or maybe just have one serving if your feeder is capable of that setting. 4 seconds is about the right amount of corn. Hopefully the hogs will realize that less corn is being served and earlier in the day and that they now have to compete with other critters for the small amount. That will cause them to show up earlier or sometimes even respond to the sound of the feeder going off. And if you're using a trail cam you can pattern them pretty easily.

SW
I have trail cams on all my food plots. All my feeders are set on the west edge of my plots so I can take advantage of are mostly southernly and northernly winds that we get here. I might give that a try putting the settings closer together and see if the hogs figure it out. I'll set them up for afternoon hunts.
