I had purchased a T/C New Englander from Corey last winter and really never took the time to sight it in. Since it was really hot out, I figured it was a good way to enjoy the heat.
I cleaned the rifle real good and read my notes about the other New Englander I own. Seems the other one is a powder hog. I never pushed the one Corey sold me so I decided to see what would happen.
I loaded 100 grains of Graf's & Sons 2f black powder, a moosemilk pillow tick patch, and a cast roundball. I was using RWS caps. I had the target set at 30 yards so I would not have to walk into the bug infested woods too much. They were bad enough where I was.
using a 6 o'clock hold I fired the first three. I learned real fast that I had to swab between shots. So I had some Windex out there and used that with some flannel patches. The first three shot group showed me the rifle liked the strong powder charge. So I made my first sight adjustment.
The next group was really shooting well. Swabbing between shots, and it was making a nice little mess, but more adjustment needed. So I swabbed it super clean and adjusted again.
I fired one, and then made an adjustment to the right. The next two showed me I might have went a little too much. So I gave it a click back. I also wanted the rifle to shoot above the bulls eye, so I really cranked the rear sight up.
The next two shots were well over the bull. So I gave it one click down and shot the next two. Those two on top of the bull was good enough for me. It was hot, the deer flies found me, so I decided to call it a day..
Still, like most of the T/C rifles I own, they love powder. This new englander is no different. I still have to send the trigger back to T/C for some adjustment as there is a LOT of play in it for some reason. Other then that this is going to be a nice little rifle.
