OK a question for the geometry wizzes.
I got out to the range with my Omega X7 for the first time today. I am planning on using the Williams peep sight that comes with the rifle.
Started out at just 25 yds to see what shoots well out of the rifle. I went through the TC Shockwaves that came with the Omega and then went to some Hornady .44 cal XTPs. My groups were decent, but I was dumping my shots consistently about 7 inches low.
My question is which way to I adjust the peep"™s ramp to compensate, forward (up) or back (down) when shots are running low. My intuition is to raise the rear peep but I wanted to be sure.
I am aware that it is somewhat common with the X7 to need a new front blade, either taller or shorter.
BTW, shooting the X7 was a blast. My first smoke pole!
Your intuition is correct Hubby. The rear sight is adjusted in the direction in whichyou want the point of impact to move. To raise the point of impact, move the rear sight up. To move the point of impact to the left, move the rear sight to the left.
I'm with you on the X7. I love mine.

(3) There's no need to act stupid, even if you're very good at it. (4) If you eat right and exercise, don't smoke or drink, you're going to die anyway.
Raise the rear peep sight, order a lower fromt sight or a combination thereof.
the easiest way for me to remember is to hold out the index finders of both hands, one with arm stretched and one near you. now raise the finger(sight) nearest you. What would you have to do to bring the front finger (sight) back into allignment. You would have to raise it. So raising the rear sight raises the point of impact.
Or the opposite: lower the front finger (sight) and what do you have to do with the rear sight to come back into allignment. You would have to lower it. Again, this would raise the point of impact.
If you are hitting 7 inches low at 25 yards, I doubt if you have that much adjustment in the peep to compensate. You will most likely have to order a lower front sight to make it work. In the past, you could call T/C and tell them that you need a lower front sight and they would send you one free. Not sure if they are still doing that or not.

Thanks for the advice. I may wait till I take some shots at 50 yards before I call TC, but I am pretty sure I will need a shorter front sight. With open sights, I try to place the front blade just below the target which may account for some of the low shooting, but 7" low at 25, I agree, I'll likely need a new front sight.

Thanks again.
If they won't send you one free, measure yours and we'll see if my old one is shorter.
