Default cleaning again.....

ok i have been looking at alot of the older posts ... with my Remington inline i always soaked my parts in hoppies number 9 gun solvent .. scrubbed my bore with with hoppies solvent then whiped dry stored with a light coating of rem oil .Now i have never had a rust problem and i cant se me soaking my gun in a bucket of water ... just makes no sence to me ... water plus steel = rust . if i am missing something please let me know so i can understand this process.

Default RE: cleaning again.....

Many of the standard powders are water soluble. Black Powder, Pyrodex, Triple Seven, and American Pioneer Powder can all be removed from the barrel of a gun using simple water. Add a trace of dish soap and you have a real cleaning machine. It is cheaper then solvent. Does just as good a job. Is normally available every where. And will take fouling out of bore just as good as Hoppe's.

As for leaving the metal wet, that is just not done. You apply WD-40 or alcohol, or even some solvents that act as a water displacer. This will pull the water out of the metal pores, and leave them spotless dry for the coat of oil that will be applied once your sure the barrel is dry.
